Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. So let's dive into today's topic.

The mandatory service in my country is the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which is a year program for university graduates. According to my research, the NYSC was founded in the year 1973. The service is mainly for those who graduate from universities and polytechnics and those who are below 30 years of age. The service aims to promote national integration and provide skilled labour to underdeveloped areas.

About the mandatory service, you are expected to serve your fatherland for a whole year, but before that, you're expected to be camped for a month so that you will undergo rigorous military training. Though I am still a student yet to serve in my fatherland, but I heard that the training is tough at the beginning, but people later blend in as time goes on. After being trained by the military and being camped for a month, they will post you to different places where you can work and finish the remaining 11 months so that you will have more experiences, especially if the work relates to the course you went for in the university.

After you are done with your service, you can finally be on your own, either to own your business with the monthly allowance given to you during your service or you develop yourself in some skills to boost your expertise.

To me, this mandatory service is very necessary, but the only disadvantage I see is that during your camping and training, you will have to pass through stress, and because of that, people can't cope with that. Other than that, the mandatory service is very necessary because it provides a better future for the youth.

Another purpose is that it helps people connect by bringing together different ethnic groups while working together towards achieving the same goal while in service.

Another purpose is that corps members contribute to local communities by working in different sectors like health services, education, etc.

Also the service aims at instilling a sense of civil duty and responsibility, encouraging young adults and youths to contribute to their country's development and bring changes to their country.

To add to it, the service provides empowerment to the corps members. The NYSC provides training and opportunities for personal development such as skills.

Every corps member benefit from the service because, as I mentioned earlier, with the money given to you during your service, you can gather everything and start a business. Though not everyone is interested in the service, still it's very important because the company or workplace you want to work with will request the certificate of your National Youth Service Corps before they can employ you in their organisation.

In summary, the only thing I know is that the government should endeavour to consider the insecurity issue while posting the corpers so that they can avoid losing their lives carelessly because it happens a lot, especially to those that are posted to a far away state.

Indeed, NYSC does contribute to national development, empower of youths through skill acquisition scheme also known as SAED and also promote unity which was the primary reason for its establishment.

Every corps member benefit from the service because, as I mentioned earlier, with the money given to you during your service, you can gather everything and start a business.

I agree with almost everything you said except for this, as a serving corper I'm aware of the kind of challenges we are facing as a result of the so called allowee. The amount of money you spend for the whole NYSC registration, camp kits and in-camp fees before you become entitled to allowee. these above mentioned cost, allowee for 4 months can't cover it. And I have not included the cost of livelihood after camp which involves securing accommodation in the community you would be posted, PPA tfare, monthly biometric clearance and CDS wahala.

After everything nothing is left of the allowee, not to talk of starting a business with it. Or else you have another source of income. Which means corp members spend more than they earn in their entire service year especially in this time of inflation.
