"Pollution Around Us: The Danger We Overlook Everyday".

Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Scifimultiverse, which says, "Pollution," so let's dive in.

Pollution is a big problem that's affecting us which we all know. Pollution, in simple word, is when we make our environment dirty and unsafe for us to live. When we talk about pollution, it means when the environment such as the air we breathe and the land we live on becomes harmful and unhealthy for us. Pollution happens when we throw dirty things like nylon, plastics, and dirty water into places where they are not supposed to be thrown.

There’s no need for us to go far to look for pollution. Just by looking around our environment, we will see that the gutters are full of waste like rotten food and plastics. And instead of dirty water flowing inside the gutters, it flows right on the streets where we walk every day. The saddest part is that instead of people looking for solutions to this pollution problem, they’ve gotten used to it. That’s why they say, “ignorance is bliss.” People don’t even care about the danger of living in a polluted environment.

That reminds me of something that happened this year in January. My roommates and I went to the market to buy some foodstuffs. We all know that in the market, they have different areas where they sell things. After buying almost everything, we had just garri and elubo (yam flour) left to buy. We went to the usual place where we buy them, but they were no longer there. When we asked around, we were told they had moved to the end of the market. So we dropped our foodstuffs we had gotten with one of our regular customers in the market and asked him to help us watch them then left to that location.

As we got closer to the new location, we started smelling urine, smoke from grinding engine machines, and dirty water. The smell was so strong I wanted to vomit. I immediately regretted not bringing my nose mask. I had to cover my nose with my hands because I couldn't cope with the smell. People in that new location were just dumping their waste anywhere without using proper waste disposal. That kind of place is what we call pollution.

Honestly, pollution has serious effects on our health. It can cause typhoid, malaria, and more. When the air is polluted, people suffer from breathing problems, which is not good.

There are different types of pollution and they're: land pollution, water pollution, and air pollution. Among these, air pollution is the worst. This is because we all breathe in air every day, and if it’s polluted, everyone is affected. And the causes of air pollution include smoke from cars, generators, factories, burning of refuse, etc. These things can cause harmful damage inside our bodies.

Imagine someone with breathing problems inhaling polluted air. It will cause serious damage to their lungs. The saddest part is that air pollution doesn't always show signs immediately, it damages the body slowly. That’s why many people die of lung problems without realizing it at the early stage.

How do we stop pollution?

Honestly, we can’t stop pollution overnight, but there are ways we can take to reduce it:

(1) We should stop throwing dirty things like plastic bags, bottles, and rotten food inside the gutters. Instead, let’s use waste bins to keep our surroundings clean.

(2) Instead of burning refuse, we should call the waste collection services or dig a compost pit for it.

(3) We should keep our gutters and streets clean by sweeping daily and making sure there's no dirty blocking our gutters.

In conclusion, pollution is something we can't ignore because It’s harmful to our health and the environment. But if we all work together we can reduce pollution and live in a better, safer and cleaner environment.
