Newbie Task 2: Hive Guidelines and Markdowns.
Good day, people of Hive. I would love to show my sincere appreciation once again for the opportunities given to me by Hive Learners Newbies Initiative to be among the selected participants of this year, and I would also love to appreciate @Iam-gifted, @nkemakonam89 and lastly, our humble team 2 leader @eunice9200 for their time, support and guidance they have shown to us, I say thank you, guys.
Let's dive into this week's task 2 given to us newbies initiative.
How is Hive different from other social media platforms like Web 2?
Before saying the difference between Hive and other media platforms, we must know the history of Hive and how is different from them.
Hive was known back then as "Steem Blockchain" in the year 2016 and the founders were Ned Scott and Daniel Larimer. They had been running Steem for four years before Ned sold it to Justin Sun who abused the platform, back then, Steem was a centralised platform, so when the community saw all this happening and how things were going from better to bad, they felt they needed a decentralized platform, so in the year 2020 Hive came into existence.
So the reasons why Hive is different from other social media platforms are:
Decentralisation:- The Hive platform is operated on a decentralised blockchain, and the reason is that it's not controlled by a single entity, because users are free to have access to their data and content and not they will have to need permission before accessing their data or content.
Incentives:- Hive uses Hive tokens to reward users for creating and curating content, and it's different from other social media platforms that rely on advertising revenue and using people for their product.
Another one is that users can earn Hive tokens through their contributions to the Hive, e.g., posting, commenting and curating content and this is different from other Web 2 social media platforms.
Hive shuns plagiarism i.e., taking other people's posts and making them your own without giving credit to them which is, to Hive called stealing. Also, Hive does not like users downloading images elsewhere apart from registered sites and once caught, the user would have to face a penalty.
I will be explaining some terminologies on Hive and they are;
I. Plagiarism
II. Vote begging
III. Post recycling
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism simply refers to the act of using someone else's ideas, words, or work without giving proper care about it. It involves publishing someone else's work as your own, whether you did it intentionally or unintentionally. Plagiarism isn't something good because Hive promotes real and good content, so when you plagiarise someone's post, they see it as cheating and there are consequences for such a person once caught.
VOTE BEGGING
Vote begging is when you beg someone or tell people to vote for you, to me, it can be seen as manipulating someone, and I haven't done it before, and I think Hive doesn't encourage such an act. For example, someone can come to your post, leave a short comment just for commenting sake, then paste their links alongside in a way to beg for a vote. If you do what is right by making quality content, you don't have to beg for a vote because your work will speak for you whether it deserves to be voted on or not.
POST RECYCLING
Post recycling simply involves someone reusing or reposting content that had been previously published or when someone runs out of ideas and goes to an old post and reposts it. This act is frowned upon on Hive because you are trying to game the system. Once a post has been published, there is no need to go back to it to re-post it again, except if you want to make reference to some sentences and not everything.
In what way is the use of tags relevant to your post? Also, do you think that abuse of tags may attract downvotes to your post? If yes or no, explain? Also, list 5 general tags you know
To my own understanding, I think the reason why we use tags is to recognize which community we are writing or posting to because every community has their own tags, also, it helps us connect with what we are writing about and helps bring the post into curators.
Abuse of tags is the wrong use or manipulation of tagging features retaining an unfair advantage. For example, writing a post about a relationship and using the "cryptocurrency" tag in your post. We can see the tags don't relate to the post. Also, the abuse of tags can mislead those who are curating or finding your post. To me, this idea is termed as "Tag Spamming."
Lastly, these are five common and general tags I know;
- Proofofbrain
- Pimp
- Vyb
- Waivio
- Neoxian
