THE TWO FACES OF AI: POSITIVE & NEGATIVE

My name is @oluthomas, and I want to share what my personal thoughts are all about on a topic: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its significance to the human race. What are the positive and negative impacts of AI in our day-to-day activities? The question here is, is AI making only a positive impact, or does it have a negative side? Please, let’s reason this together, friends.

I notice AI has become part of our everyday life, because I notice everyone using a smartphone has mobile apps either for online banking, content creation, and maybe streaming of diverse content or music. With this, it shows virtually everyone interacts with AI almost every day.
Having the knowledge of all these apps, I come to the conclusion that AI has indeed simplified many tasks that, on the norm, used to take a lot of human effort to accomplish. But today we have AI tools that easily accomplish this within seconds or minutes. There are AIs that help us to write, design, and compose even songs and also have the ability to translate different languages. That alone has helped many people, including me and my friends. I want to venture into content creation, and after writing it, AI can help me go through it and give me its idea on the contents and how to go about it if I am limited. I remember back then during my college days, before you could do research, you had to go to a physical library to carry out your research, but not anymore; just ask AI, and you will get answers in just seconds or minutes. I also heard of how AI machines are being used in the medical field. AI is drastically saving lives now because it can detect diseases faster than some of the doctors. So AI is very important, and there are other uses of AI, but I think AI has a negative impact on our society today.

One of the negative sides of AI that I have been hearing but do not take to heart is that AI will massively be in the business of job displacement. It will replace some workers in diverse companies, and even where I worked before, most of the staff are sacked because AI has replaced them; they make provision of machines that do their work even faster and more accurately than the way they do it. So seven more people had their jobs collected by AI, and they had families to take care of and lives to live, but AI has done the worst for them.

And there are things I noticed people are doing now; they are misusing AI. They are using it to create fake videos, and they are very deep fakes because it will be very difficult for one to differentiate between real and fake, and also it can be used to cheat in schools and even in our workplaces. Do you know now it seems nothing is hidden because I just typed my name on Google, and I noticed my info just started displaying without me putting it there? So AI begins to make us feel like we are being watched.

So from my own viewpoint, AI is a very powerful tool that has the tendency to act both positively and negatively depending on who is giving it commands. If we use it wisely, it will continue to simplify our tasks and give opportunities to many, especially young guys, but if we misuse it, it will cause confusion and loss of value. Just like the war between Iran and Israel, I notice most people are using AI to generate fake videos and images, and if you are not careful, you will hate someone you are supposed to love and love who you are supposed to hate.

My advice to us all is that we cannot run away from what the future brings, but rather we should handle this with wisdom.
