The Special Someday

I was going to shy away from telling you about what it is you'll read here today—about putting a ring on your finger and making you Mrs. Olujay till death do us apart—because with a perfect woman for me like you, I want nothing less than the perfect special day when I get to take you home forever and spend the rest of my life with you. If you are reading this, however, it means I did overcome that feeling and put my words together for you.

Getting into marriage is normal and what society would expect of us, but it really isn't compulsory. However, I want to be in love and share my body, mind, and soul with one special person I would call my significant other, you. I want to make babies and bring them up together with you, as well as do every other thing that lovers do in marriages. It's a beautiful thing, and even more so with you.

Our wedding may be many years from now, considering that we are young now, but there really has never been a law against dreaming about that special day when forever begins with that person that makes my heart beat unusually. So, imagining that I did wield the brush to paint on the canvas of our lives, I would like to paint a picture of what I envision our wedding day may look like.

Considering that we are from a country where weddings are done in specific ways, depending on the tribes, we surely would have a traditional wedding where our families would meet and get introduced officially, have traditional proceedings, and have ourselves in traditional attire.

Our families would be more involved with the planning process of the traditional wedding, so we may not design it exactly how we would like to. Nonetheless, I imagine it to be a memorable one, as it is that moment that "leaving your parents to cleave to me" would be demonstrated.

There would be a church wedding, of course, but what would be of utmost concern for you and me is the wedding ceremony, the one we would design and plan ourselves. That is where the koko is, you know.

You know I am not the kind to make much noise about the things in my life, and so are you not the kind as well. Generally, we prefer to keep things to ourselves, and so it seems to me like we may not want an elaborate ceremony when someday comes.

What matters to me and to us is having a meaningful wedding—one that wouldn't be cliche but intimate and memorable. We would want for ourselves an intimate ceremony that would allow for a deeper connection and focus on the love we have between us. This implies picking a location that aligns with our preferences.

I am thinking of a picturesque outdoor environment, like a really pretty garden that's big enough to contain our guest list and whatever else we may have planned. Something that holds meaning and that we can remember for a long time is what I'd like for an environment. I think you'd like that as well.

Our guest list is going to be a gathering of close friends and family. I don't imagine it to be a really big ceremony. Not sure we would really like to have strangers or people that do not care much show up on the guest list.

I am not sure if our attire may be different from a suit for me and a gown for you. If it is going to be that, I sure would wear a really nice one, and then yours would be the prettiest gown in the world as it would belong to the prettiest woman in my world.

Singing songs to you is what I will do forever. That special someday would be a day that I would sing one of the songs I would write for you and then sing and play along with my guitar to you. That cannot be off the list.

Photography and videography will be very important elements. Not only will we need to cover every part of the wedding, we will also have a slideshow of our memories in photographs and videos we will take along the years up until that special someday. I think it'll be emotional, especially to see how far we have come.

One thing of all that would take place the most and that I consider most important is our vows. I know for sure that I would have something written from the bottom of my heart as a solemn promise to be yours and yours alone, to be the man you fell in love with with all my strength, till we grow old together and leave this world. I may use cheesy lines in between, like I always do, but it's all to personalise my vow to you. I imagine that you would do the same as well.

Beautiful, innit? I imagine that that special someday will be even more special than I picture it to be today. Until then...
