My not so daily updates

How I went from constantly hearing the news daily to almost never doing that now, I am not exactly sure. Perhaps it was being stuck in the same four walls for three months without the norms like access to information and social media that largely contributed. Yet things have changed over the years, and the way I get to know what's happening around has changed, sort of.

My mother constantly listened to the radio every morning. Every time she dropped us off at school in her white Mitsibushi when my brother was much, much younger, the car radio was mostly at a news station. I quickly even mastered some catchphrases and intros.

Every night, between 8 PM and 10 PM, she would put up the news TV channels. There were usually about three channels. I remember LTV, TVC, and MITV used to start theirs at different times.

Back when I was a kid, I used to wonder, "Why does this woman care so much about what's going on in this country?" All I ever cared about were my cartoon shows and how I was sometimes hindered from watching them because of some news. I got used to it anyway. Not like I could go live in my own house at the age of 9.

And then I joined a military secondary school. Each term lasted three months, and then we'll get a break. All the time that I was in school, I grew less and less interested in TVs and mostly didn't care about news at all. That stuck with me, so guess who hardly watches news? You guessed right!

Now, now. I reckon that knowing at least what's going on around you, especially at crucial times, is super important. So rather than being ignorant, even though I hardly care about the every-day bad news we keep hearing, I still check around and do that with social media mostly.

The issue with social media and information dissemination today is how what you see and hear could be perverted and untrue, but somehow misleads people. It can be difficult sometimes to know what's valid and accurate. At the very least, though, one can have an idea of what's generally happening around, and that's what I mostly use X for.

I should improve how I get the news and know more about things in real time, but I often find myself scrolling through X to see what people are talking about, learn what's hot and trending, and possibly find answers to questions I may have about a certain topic.

But I find this method with X to be very inefficient most times. I wonder if people get streamlined results when they go through X, but I often get tired of seeing unrelated results and poor moderation of content. Anything just goes there on X, and that often makes me not want to search there.

When it comes to false information, verifying what I hear largely depends on how crucial the information is. There are some things that I would often push aside if they don't contribute much or perhaps don't even interest me, and there are some other things that I would rather look up myself to find out how more on.

So while I don't do conventional news much anymore, looking around on social media is pretty much how I get to know what's happening around. It may not be very efficient, but I guess that's the world today; you just have to watch carefully.

I think it's the same case for many people today because many of us lost interest in listening to the news due to the manipulative attitude of News agencies and even bloggers.

Our parents tried making it a habit for us but it didn't just work and while writing my entry for the prompt, I thought about the fact that news back then were equally lies but we didn't have means of verifying, we believe them.

It's different now that we have the internet and about X, it takes time to find out the real information. Whenever I am keen on knowing the truth, I don't hesitate to surf X.

Oh, yes. News back then may not have been true for most of the time, but I think we have it worse now with social media. God help us. But we are able to check ourselves now. The sad part is that people don't do their own research. I've been guilty myself, even.

Social media that are rumor crowded is a wrong place to search for news. I personally like reading or listening to finance and tech news so I guess Hive and precisely inleo has caught my attention. News here are much trustworthy.

That's interesting. Want to share other places you read your finance and tech news from, other than Hive?

I think there is much genuineness on hive in terms of news. I am making use of Spotify for finance update this days. Haven't been active for a while now. So many activities to meet up so I still depend on hive financial feeds plus any site that meets my particular search query for some confirmations.

The News in this country is very boring, nothing changes except for the worse and honestly I hate being bombarded with so much negativity.
But yes, I don't watch the News on TV, I google them to catch any of interest.

Nigerian news is mostly gloom and doom, actually. It would be nice to see something innovative happening once in a while.
