What happens in Vegas? Unplanned marriages (Movie review?

When last did you come across a beautifully scripted romantic comedy, with a touch of the enemies to lovers and fake marriage trope? I did, today. It's holiday season and one thing I love about holidays is my unlimited access to my TV screen. I know, I know, kids my age aren't fans of the whole big screen experience. But I am. I'm a huge fan and because there's no way I'll take a TV into the hostel, I make good use of my access while I'm home.

So todayyy, I came across this movie that was about to be aired on TV and it looked like something I'd like. I looked forward to watching it, and I was happy I did. It opened my eyes to see what I've been missing. I'm about to review the movie 'What happens in Vegas'. Here we go.

What happens in Vegas is an American rom-com directed by Tom Vaughan and writen by Dana Fox. It starrs Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher as the main leads. The movie follows Joy (Cameron Diaz), a reporter. When she is dumped by her ex boyfriend, she decides to go to Vegas. At the same time, Jack (Ashton Kutcher), a carpenter is fired from his place of work and also decides to go to Vegas. They meet that night, drink together, declare they're perfect for each other, get married and spend the night together. The next day, they awake from their drunken haze and realize the gravity of their mistakes. They decide to part ways but at that moment, Jack wins a jackpot. And Joy wants to be back in his life. When they go to court to annul the marriage, the judge refuses and gives them six months to try the marriage again. This marks the continuation of their hilarious experience as enemies.

I loved this movie, everything about it. I'm not usually a fan of American romantic comedies because most times, the characters are more stupid than funny. But I enjoyed this particular one. Cameron and Ashton bodied their roles so well that I didn't know I had sat there for over 1hr, watching them on my screen. They did a good job with their actions and expressions which complemented the brilliantly written storyline.

I loved Joy so much more than I did Jack. Jack was a fun character. I liked him but I just loved Joy more. She was hardworking, smarter than Jack and knew exactly what she wanted - The best for herself. I love when characters are able to decide what it is they want and how exactly they want to go about getting that thing. Joy knew she was striving to be better for herself and she knew she deserved better. So, she did not stay, accepting anything anybody gives to her because her heart says so. In other words, she was a girl who knew her worth and prioritized her happiness, making her a perfect match for a guy like Jack.

Enemies to lovers trope will be one of the best tropes to ever exist and I'm glad I'm a huge fan of the trope. This movie isn't completely an enemies to lovers because our protagonists moved from strangers to lovers to enemies and to lovers again. I loved that about it. The fact that it didn't need to follow a standard before it made sense. It had very few supporting characters as the storyline focused mainly on Jack and Joy's relationship so there wasn't much need for backstories. But we got to see both characters develop fully.

After watching this movie, I contemplated adding 'going to Las Vegas' on my bucket list, just to see for myself whether it's the perfect place to forget one's sorrows and live, or not. That's the power of this movie. Everything just made so much sense that I felt like if things made more sense than it did, the movie would not make sense anymore as a result of making too much sense. I mean, there's absolutely nothing I'd want to change about it. It was nothing short of perfect.

This is a fast paced movie and if you're looking for movie with light themes that'll have your eyes glued to your screen, all the time you're watching it, do check out this movie. I'll rate this movie an 8/10. It was worth every time I second spent on it. Do check this one out.

Thanks for reading.
