Venom - An enjoyable and amusing action sci-fi

avatar

Whenever I'm around movie freaks and the conversation is centered on their greatest shows of all time that isn't a K-drama, I hardly have anything to contribute. And so, when I came across an advertisement by Meghan Thee Stallion, where she used Venom as a visual in the commercial, I decided that that was going to be my next watch. I watched the movie Venom and now, I'm reviewing it. Let's go!

Source
Venom is a 2018 action/sci-fi starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williàms, Riz Ahmed and Jenny Slate. When struggling journalist and investigator Eddie Brocke, investigates and attempts to bring down famous CEO of Life Foundation, Carlton Drake, he loses his job and loses hope in everything that has to deal with saving humanity. After several attempts at finding a job, and countless rejections, he is contacted by Dr. Dora Skirth, a scientist at the Life Foundation to investigate the happenings at the foundation. Although he refuses at first, he later agrees to do it, as a form of revenge on Carlton Drake. But getting to the lab, the unthinkable happens. He becomes the host of an alien symbiote who he happens to be the perfect match for.

Okay, before I start, I am not a fan of action movies. I wouldn't opt for them on a normal day but like I said, what moved me to watching this movie, is because of my girl, Meghan's commercial. Seeing Venom look so good in that ad, made me want to watch the full movie of the specie. I was lost in this movie and ate everything that was aired on my screen up. When halfway into the movie, I realized that it was action, I found myself waiting for the initial wave of tiredness and then the following yawns and incessant checking of how many minutes left but none came. I watched it till the end and was so engrossed in it.

I've said it that I loved the CGI in this movie a lot right? Yes. It takes very little for me to cringe out, most especially with action movies because, this genre is known for going to extreme lengths to portray their character talents or whatever else they want the viewers to be impressed by. And so, I loved that the visual effects didn't cringe me out. Instead, I found myself looking forward to every Venom's visual and seeing how he'd look in the body of his next host. It was fun to watch.

Tom Hardy's acting here, was so good. He bodied the role of a man in distress when he realized the parasite could speak to him and I found it funny. It was even funnier when he tried to fight against Venom speaking to him. I enjoyed seeing Venom in his full form, using him as a host and his acting in general. He did well with his confused self and his accepting self.

As much as I loved almost everything about this movie, there was something that kept nagging at me since it was left unanswered even at the end. Carlton Drake never had a parasite in him before, did he? So, how is it that he was very open to becoming a host to the symbiote? I'm asking this because for a scientist who has used so many humans as lab rats and seen how many of them were not compatible as hosts for these parasites ended up, wasn't he supposed to resist at least a little bit when the parasite attempted to switch hosts, or did he know he would be a perfect host before that scene? This particular question kept on popping up in my head after that scene and I hoped it would be answered at the end. Sadly it wasn't.

There's a sequel to this Venom I watched and I do look forward to watching it. Probably, this my question will be answered there. Anyways, this one was a masterpiece and apart from the flaw I mentioned above, I would have enjoyed it way more than I did. After watching this movie, I definitely get why it was a hit. It was worth every second spent on it.

I'll rate this movie an 8/10 and I'll absolutely recommend to anyone who is willing to watch. As for me, I can't wait to watch the next one.

Thanks for reading.

Although you might not like the very ending of the path 🙂
The next one is epic though

Ohh... That's the thing with sequels. It's hard for them to keep up to standards they started with. I'll definitely watch it though and I'll share the review on here as well

Venom is a very good movie.

I remember watching it twice that same day 😂😂

You should try watching the 2nd and 3rd part. I've not watched the 3rd movie but the 2nd is definitely worth watching also

I love action movie and any other movie that isn't such genre, I yawn at such movie except I'm just in the mood to watch it. I'm thinking I might have seen this movie but can't remember but I'm sure I have watched something like that before. Nice reviews.

Thank you. If you're a lover of action movies, then the movie should definitely ring a bell. It's an old movie though. Maybe that's why the memory appears faint.

Marvel is good at what they do. Rest in peace to Stan Lee. Venom is probably the most scary looking super hero I've seen. I loved the way he cooperated with Eddie Brock for the better good. Nice review

He sure had this menacing look but I didn't find him scary. Although I can't differentiate between super heroes created by Marvel or DC, I loved Venom. Thank you
