Second Hand Choso

I am and always have been one of those people that can't stand carrying the same hairstyle as others around me. Back when I was in secondary school, we were always forced to wear a particular hairstyle every week. I didn't like that but I didn't have a choice. So now that I'm no longer bound by any rules or hairstyles, I always try my best to find about-to-trend styles or those that are simple yet pretty in their own way when it's time to do my hair. Even when I do trendy hairstyles, I make sure to differentiate it using colour or length.

Trying out unique hairstyles has backfired a lot. There's this particular experience I had sometime ago that has failed to leave my memory. It was two days before resumption and I needed to do my hair. I didn't want to do the regular box braids as I had made it too much times in a row. I decided to opt for braids made with kinky extensions. Kinky extensions when used to make the regular kinky twists appeared boring to me so I scrolled through Pinterest for other ideas. It wasn't an easy task to find something different but I did.

I found these twists made with kinky but the twists at the front were cut shorter than the rest. And they were cut unequally, in a way that formed princess bangs. I liked the style and that was where my problem started from. I shouldn't have liked a style like that.

Well, I blindly chose that hairstyle and went to the market myself to get the extensions. I got the extensions and they were the wrong ones. Now, I didn't know there were so many types of kinky extensions in the market so I got the one that was used to make this curly hairstyle baby girls usually carried instead of the afro textured ones. They all appeared curly and textured when I touched them through the packs so I just picked the one that looked like it was the fullest. I bought two packs of it.

My mom was the one to do the hair since it was a simple hairstyle (or so I thought). It was the next day we finally opened the packs and I found out I had been deceived by the curliness of these extensions. They were so small that they weren't going to reach half the hair. I couldn't go back to get more since it was a Sunday. We decided to make do with it by making the hair shorter than we had planned.

You know that saying that 'every mistake in fashion is a new design'? I was being motivated by that. My mom cut the outer parts of the hair very normally but you see the inside, it was something the outside world was never meant to see. She cut it in very big portions to manage the kinky effectively. It worked though. The two packs reached.

It was now time for the supposed princess bangs. We stared and stared at the inspo and studied how it was cut. It looked really easy and we had cut it how it appeared so why was it now looking like I was carrying a cosplay hairstyle?

I still trusted the process and styled it exactly the same way the lady in the picture had and boy! I was looking like Choso from JJK (without the markings), ordered from an illegal website. I cried that day because there was nothing I could do since I had to resume the next day. I resumed with the hair and was even too shy to take pictures of it. I loosed it after two weeks of styling with scarfs and caps. A memorable hair experience it was that day.

We read, we don't judge!!!

This is my entry to Day 11 for the #Decemberinleo prompts.

If you're looking like this Choso I'm seeing, then I can understand why you cried. So much for aiming to be different, lol.
