Photos and much more...

Whose freshman year wasn't filled with unnecessary fear, enthusiasms and excitement that you finally got into a tertiary institution? Some people who have faced multiple failed attempts into the University tend to attribute their lack of success to various factors such as spiritual attacks(hehe😂). But those who triumphed feel grateful for their victory, and recognize that it is something to celebrate and cherish.

I watched my first year roommates (freshers 😂) talk enthusiastically about their preparations to look all glam and pretty for their matriculation happening this Saturday. After they talked about their preparations, they talked about the after-party and all the fun they'll have.

Listening to them reminded me of myself. I never really took matriculation seriously then. I saw it as a phase that will definitely pass whether I take it seriously or not. I remember having to attend it just because my dad was going to be attending it that day. After the celebration ended and my dad left, I headed straight for my dorm room and went to sleep.

But why exactly aren't some people excited when it comes to things like that? The ceremony doesn’t take so long anyway. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

Why should I go there when my presence isn't needed? If I attend or not, who will notice? And besides, I'll get my matriculation oath form whether I'm there or not. To be honest, this was my thought that period. But now, seeing that I don't really have many pictures of my matriculation is weird cause when I was younger, my parents made sure I took so many pictures of everything about me till I entered the University. As a person who loves taking pictures, I really do not have any reason for not taking much pictures that particular day. Probably because I felt that there's always the convocation ceremony which I must attend. Matriculation is a fun opportunity to get dressed up and feel like a million bucks.

It can't be just me that didn't attend one big event just cause they didn't feel like right?

Taking pictures of every achievement in life is a necessity. It gives you something to look back to in the future, and to share with family and friends. At times, when I have nothing to do or in the mood of reminiscing the past, I go through my photo album at home. Photos are the only way to remember what happened in our lives because they capture the memories, and moments that matter. Nigerian musician Omah Lay in his song titled 'Reason' said "Are you taking the pictures of every memories of your life?" Your memories don’t just stay in your head. You’ll forget most of them without a photo to serve as a reminder. The only exception being that you possess a computer-like brain which no one possesses😂.

But there are times when your mind decides to withdraw from society and prioritize your comfort. It's important to do what feels right for you. Ultimately, what matters most is your happiness and comfort.

What you say really resonates with me. I, too, was not a fan of taking pictures of myself or capturing those moments.

I still don't particularly enjoy it.

But one thing I've learned is the importance of keeping memories of these moments. Because it's always fun to come across old photos of yourself, and it also helps to remember how far you've come.

To be honest, I don't have many photos of myself. Usually, when someone starts to take a photo, I shift so that I'm not in it. I'm not sure why I do this.

However, I now regret not having more photos of myself and my accomplishments. But it's never too late, so since I've been on Hive, I've been taking more photos. Not necessarily of me, but of little moments in my life.

Your words encourage me to pursue this little personal challenge of photographing something that matters to me. Whatever it is, the important thing is to get into the habit of documenting my life a little and have something to share with my future children, if I have any, or with my friends and family.

Yes it is good to document memories. Like I said above my photo album is one of my go-to options when I'm bored. I'm glad you found this post insightful. Thanks for reading 💕

I too wasn't really psyched about my matriculation. I attended, but I didn't really take any pictures and asides the fact that I'm still a student of the institution, I don't really have any evidence that I matriculated. 😅

What school do you attend btw? The pictures from your post look like the eastern part of Nigeria. Am I correct?

In my school, the Matriculation oath form is compulsory so there must be evidence 😂.

I attend Delta State University (Delsu). It's the Southern part of Nigeria🌚

It's compulsory here too, but all we had to do was sign it and upload it online.

Oh, my bad.
Delsu is in Abraka yea? I hope I'm correct this time around. 😅

Yes you are correct this time around. LoL. Delsu is in Abraka.
If you signed it, that's the evidence the school and every organization needs as evidence of your matric 😂. Wearing the matric gown is just a formality. After all, not everybody that puts on the matriculation gown are students.

The only time I did matriculation was during my NCE program and when I entered the university to further my studies, the ceremony didn't freak me, so I didn't attend. Thank God I took pictures during the first one and it made me look back to appreciate it. It's always a good think to capture every moment especially the achievements in our lives but it isn't a crime if we don't. We actually know what we want for ourselves and no qualms there. I popped in through #dreemport

I did attend my matriculation and my parents came well dressed in their to match lace. It was an exciting experience for me but after that i just lost interest as i did not attend my 2 convocations. I will always get the gown, snap take photo and enlarge. But its good one get to attend these ceremonies just to keep the memory alive. Thank you for sharing.

Wow... The way you described it, it seemed as if they were the ones matriculating. LoL😂. But I thought convocation is the one everyone looks forward to? Let me get there first and see how interested I'll be (hehe😂).
Yes it's very good one attends them as one should make as many memories as one can in one's lifetime. Thanks for stopping by to read 💕

Photos are truly a great way to help us remember life events. Unfortunately, no matter how we try, there are instances that we may not be able to keep memories of.

On my matriculation day (way back in 1993), I used by camera to take pictures of myself and my friends. We were so happy that we didn't have to pay a photographer. However, someone mistakenly opened the back of the camera and the film was exposed (no digital cameras at that time). We lost all those photos. Some of my friends had to borrow matriculation gowns the next year just to make sure they have matriculation pics. I never bothered, hehehe. I came from #dreemport

I wasn't fazed by those things either. However, now that I think back, I honestly wish I did. As you said, they are memories to be cherished.

Yes I too wished I did. But there's no point crying over spilled milk. We'll do better on our convocation. Thanks for reading 💕

There are days for stepping out into the world and days for protecting your peace. And...there are days for taking photos and days simply to enjoy the experience. I tend to try for a couple of photo opps and then enjoy the rest of my time just being in the moment. After all, we have to decide whether we want to live our lives through a camera lens or first-hand experiences. You look lovely in your graduation gown. I hope you had a wonderful celebration.

I came across your post in Dreemport this evening.

Thank you but that isn't me actually. It was a friend of mine who decided to be goofy that day (we weren't matriculating).
