Parasyte: An oddly refreshing Horror Story (Anime Review)
I said I wasn't going to let this year pass by without reviewing this awesome anime I watched. It's been a while since I watched this anime but I didn't feel like reviewing it till today.
This was one of the shows an anime obsessed friend gave to me to watch earlier this year. But because I'm an inconsistent anime lover, it took me a while to watch it. And now, I'm about to review the anime Parasyte: The Maxim.
Parasyte the maxim is a 24 episode japanese animation that tells the story of Shinichi Izumi, a high school student. When he wakes up to see a strange insect crawling towards him, he is wary and tries to run away from it. Instead, the insect crawls into his palm. He is alarmed by the weird occurrence but keeps the details to himself since nobody seemed to notice changes in him. He is shocked when he begins to realize there are more of the creature's kind in town and many of them feed on their host's brain. Luckily for him, only his hand hosted the parasite. Shinichi and Migi (the parasite) take it upon themselves to stop these other brain-eating parasites but they aren't aware of the abilities these parasites possess.
Did I mention above that this is one of the most awesome animes I've watched in my life even though I haven't watched much? Yeah, I think I did. I loved the plot of this anime. Shinichi was the regular dumb school student and Migi was an extremely smart parasite. Together, they made a perfect pair. In this anime, the villain was everybody and anybody. And I think that's what I loved the most. The fact that the villains were discovering their abilities at the same time our protagonists were. A world where everybody was just discovering who they were and what they could do, made the storyline worthy.
This was a really sad anime. It contained quite a number of character deaths which I feel were necessary. It wasn't sad enough to make me cry but it was sad enough to make you understand the gravity of the situation in the town invaded by parasites. Watching it was refreshing because it could be likened to life. You might be fighting to save what is across you, overlooking that that is exactly next to you. I liked that about it. Shinichi and Migi were obsessed with saving people, forgetting that they had people around them also.
One thing I looked forward to in this anime was the theme songs. This is the first anime I mastered it's lyrics to it's opening song. And that's odd because although I enjoy their songs, I find it hard to learn the lyrics but for this, I looked forward to the start of every new episode to enjoy that sound I loved so much. There was also the closing sounds. I liked that one too but because I loved the opening one better, I always moved on to the next episode quickly, not paying much attention to it. Been months since I watched this anime but that song is still stuck in my head. If there was an anime challenge for those who can sing that particular song word for word, I'll win that one for sure. Lol. But yeah, I loved the soundtracks.
There was a character I liked the most - Kana. Kana was a girl that was in love with Shinichi. He was too stupid to not notice it and that angered me a lot. She didn't hide the fact that she liked and trusted him but she made a stupid mistake which could have been avoided had she not been so blinded by love. I was pained about that part and wished she had gotten better because she deserved the best. She was just a lonely girl in love.
I also wished Migi was given better character development in this show but she wasn't. The show was worth it but we (the viewers) would have understood better, the origin of the parasites, how they knew to enter humans and why they invaded the town overnight. I still loved the anime even with it's flaws. A perfect blend of humour, fantasy and action, it was.
I'll rate this anime an 8/10. It had so much gory scenes which some viewers might find uncomfortable. It was an amazing watch and I'll definitely recommend it to those who are lovers of it's genre.

Ahh...Parasyte,very glorious anime. I'm glad you liked it. If you read the manga, maybe you would've gotten to know the origin of the parasites. I think they mentioned it there. I didn't like Kana like that.
Thanks for sharing with us:D
Sadly, I didn't read the manga. I liked Kana quite a lot. She was crazy and in love
