My flow - LOH #228

Recently, I watched a film where the main character had mapped out how his life was going to turn out, he had everything figured out or so he believed, he rambled on and on about things he had done that will pave the way to achieving his goal and things he was still going to do. When he spoke to his love interest, her first statement was 'Are you a robot?'

Now, when I came across the second question posed by the Ladies of Hive prompt for the week, that particular scene popped into my head. There really are people who enjoy acting out every action in their day, according to plan. And that's amazing. The whole taking out time to map out actions and routines to follow. I am not one to do that. This question, if asked sometime ago, would have been answered with uncertainty but thanks to a certain experience, I am very confident in my answer.

There was this one time I had two papers to write in a day. And the day after those two papers, I had a core course that required a serious amount of preparation. A day to the marathon, I woke up, the severity of the coming exams, ever present and I knew I had to utilize my time very effectively so I don't end up wasting a second. So, I decided to make a list of all I needed to do that day and beside them, I wrote the amount of time I was going to spend on each of them. I tried making the list as humanistic as possible, by adding rest minutes in between, even with the knowledge of what was at stake. So I started.

Everything was going smoothly for the first two actions and then came the third. I realized there that I would have been better off putting action number 7 in number 3. That was how the whole thing became a situation of going with the flow. I ended up doing things one after the other, however I felt like. As unpredictable as life's deal is, I like to counter it with my own unpredictability.

There are days when I wake up and my domestic mode is switched on fully. I'll happily prance about, doing chores without needing assistance and there are days when I don't feel like it.

There are days when I wake up with so much energy, I decide to do five push-ups immediately after getting out of bed. There are times I wake up and the urge to go back to sleep hits me almost immediately. There are times I make plans and they end up not being fulfilled due to one reason or the other. It's just me me-ing. I'm not a routine person. I'm more of a 'let's see where this takes us', 'Let's just go with the flow', person. And so, whatever I can at the moment, I do. It has worked for me so far. Afterall, one of life's most important principles, is finding what works for you and sticking to it.

That, I believe is what I'm doing currently.

It’s fascinating how life can nudge us toward discovering what truly works for us—often in unexpected ways. Your reflection highlights such a vibrant contrast between meticulously planned routines and the beauty of embracing spontaneity. It’s clear that your adaptable approach, shaped by experience, has allowed you to find balance without rigid boundaries, even under pressure like those exam-packed days.

The image of you "me-ing" is wonderfully authentic—it shows how self-awareness and flexibility play an integral role in your daily flow. Your ability to match life’s unpredictability with your own unpredictability brings an element of freedom and creativity, which is undeniably refreshing. It’s inspiring to see how you honor your energy and mood, leaning into them with a "let's see where this takes us" philosophy.

Your insights offer such a thoughtful take on life’s principle of finding—and owning—what aligns with you. Whether through structured routine or going with the flow, it’s always about honoring what keeps you centered and fulfilled.

Have you thought about whether this approach could influence other areas of your life, like creative pursuits or long-term goals? It could be interesting to explore, @oluchi31!

It's awesome that you discovered what works best for you. Going with the flow can bring surprises, good and not-so-good ones, just like planning one's day. Sometimes things go smoothly; at other times, they can go haywire, and it's okay :)

Exactly! Routines or no routines, the final outcome is never determined but both ways are fine for every individual.
