Just as Much Work

When I pestered my friend to onboard me to hive, I was so excited for the endless possibilities that seemed in store for me. The mere knowledge that i was going to be introduced to an online platform where I could earn, had so many ideas already running through my mind.

Before being introduced onto the platform, I pictured myself answering everyone who asked what I did, that I just shared my thoughts for a living. I already imagined the amazing friendship I’d build, how much I’d get to polish my skills in writing. However, one thing I failed to imagine at the time, was how much I needed to give back to the platform.

The idea of being a content creator, without having to always put my face out there, was a dream come through, and I had actually imagined it just like how one becomes a twitter influencer - one magical post, that’ll bring in all the engagements, the curations and everything good the platform offered. So, I got into hive, made my first two posts, and the engagements did well. After, I started to relax, believing things would continue that way. It backfired of course.

I remember the first time my post wasn’t curated. I rushed into my onboarder’s dm, asking him what went wrong, lol. Then, he let me understand that not getting curated didn’t mean my work was of poor quality, nor did it mean I did anything wrong.

From this experience, everytime I’m about to onboard someone, I like to emphasize the fact that curations aren’t guaranteed, no matter how worthy you think your posts are. Infact, almost everyone who publishes, believes their post is worthy, and you’re just one among the thousands that publish daily. You’re not entitled to curations just because you think your post is worth it. Not getting engagements, or curations doesn’t in anyway determine the worth of your posts.

Hive has so much more to offer than simply financial benefits, and being able to see beyond that, I believe one has the potential to achieve so much, on this platform. There’s the relationship aspect, there’s the personal growth, there’s the drive to improve yourself and the urge to try out new things - talents, skills and whatever. Just like every other social media platform, hive requires you to put in as much work, just as much as it gives back to it’s users.

So, for anyone who’s finding their footing on hive, just continue to put out quality posts, and engage frequently. Put in as much work as someone who plans to make it on an app like TikTok within two months. No one is asking you to publish daily, but when publishing, make sure you’re putting out your best. Ensure whatever you’re posting is worth it. Also, engagement is key. Engagement is what helps you foster as many connections as you can get. Take your time to go through posts, and leave thoughtful comments, this is your way of giving back to hive as a community.

My onboarder explained so many of these things to me back then, but because i was still getting acquainted with hive as a platform, I didn’t take them seriously. Now, I’m speaking from first-hand experience. Hive, as you’d find out, is the best place to be, as long as you continue to blog with the right mindset.

Truly a nice one @oluchi31 . Our contents not being curated or upvoted does not mean they are poor.

It shows how we need to know that Hive is a slow and steady place because we will definitely grow and achieve more if we stay patience enough.

Beautiful share 😍

Exactly! Impatience doesn’t thrive hereon hive. That individual would just be so disappointed. It’s a good thing many people now know of this aspect of hive.
