Double conveniences

I experienced something yesterday. I made a huge purchase that required me to exceed my transfer limit, and there was still something I hadn't bought, and couldn't afford not buying. I was exhausted and tired, because I was actually on my way back from work and when I couldn't pay with transfers, I ended up paying for it with my card. At this point, my thoughts did what they usually do with random situations - weave it into a life lesson on why I should be grateful for having the things I have. At that moment, I imagined living life in the ancient times, when the trade by barter system still existed.

Then, I'll probably have had to go back home, to find something worthy of exchange (that's if I'm not with one), and then come back to get that thing I wanted. I think online banking is one of my favourite innovations that actually relates to me the most. Sitting in the comfort of my home, making payments, receiving payments from the comfort of my bedroom, or wherever I find myself in, going shopping with just my debit card, renewing subscriptions with only the swipe of my card or typing in a pin code, these are things that although we now see as normal in our daily lives, they were perceived as luxury in the days of old.

That evening, I pictured myself going back to the store, a tuber of yam in hand, bargaining with the sellers, before making a purchase. Such a harrowing thing to do! I know how urgently I sometimes make purchases, imagine me having to wait because what I have for exchange isn't worth it, then they give me something of lesser value. I'll be so pissed.

Can we even talk about how easy it is to swipe a card? I'm starving, I go to a restaurant to order a meal, I really don't have to wait to make a bargain. I could make a transfer or better still, swipe my card, using their point of service and I'm good to go. The online banking has to be my favourite invention at the moment, because I can't imagine how things would have been if I had to carry all those weights, because I needed to make a purchase.

The sci-fi multiverse community posed an interesting prompt, asking for our favourite innovations and what we might possibly invent. This is my response to the prompt.

For the second question, I think I've said this before in a post here on hive. If I had the opportunity to invent something, I'll definitely invent a pillowcase or a bed that aids sleep. This invention is not for everybody. The target audience would be people who dread sleep, due to what assails them in sleep constantly.

There's a backstory to this invention actually. Right from childhood, I've never been able to stand talks that have earthworms or centipedes at their base, worse still, seeing them. I get panic attacks, and find myself hyperventilating at the thought of them. A situation I can't seem to explain the logic behind. But even when I succeed at subduing the thoughts at day, there are nights I can't escape them.

I've had sleepless nights thanks to these and so, if I were to invent anything, the first I'd do is to invent a nightmare dissolving bed for people who have encountered one trauma or the other, people who simply have unexplainable phobias like me, or for someone who's had a very exhausting day. Sleep is very essential to every human and so, imagine having something that ensures you enjoy it to the fullest. That'll be wonderful, wouldn't it?

Thanks for reading.

The era of trade by barter would have been quite funny in a way, imagine scattering the house to look for something worth what the other person is willing to exchange.

Honestly! And if you decide on something that the person does not deem fit, you're in a fix.

A nightmare dissolving pillow is what I would prefer to invent, seeing as pillows have been invented already.

ATM and online transfer have really made the banking system easy and less stressful.

Thanks to technology.
