Come with me?
It is no news that apart from attending classes, most of my daily activities are performed indoors. I love being indoors and there are so many reasons why. But I'm not going to bore you with why I love being indoors. Instead, I'm going to take you with me on a walk from my hostel to the little market located just outside my school gate.
I'm not someone to take walks often. I rarely do it. I love being surrounded by nature but most of the times, I would rather stay in my room, shuffling app to app. These days, however, I find myself taking walks more often. Even when I don't really have anywhere to go, I find myself taking walks around the school environment and surrounding myself with the beauty which is nature.
Today, I decided to go to the market. Weekends are usually the best times for me to go to the market because then, I have the freedom to do whatever I want at anytime of the day, without fear of any impromptu classes. So, I went to the market to get a few essentials, and this is me telling you about my experience.
Like I said earlier, the market isn't too far from my dorm. It's about fifteen minutes walk away from the hostel and before I left, I ensured the sun had begun to set. Why? That's because the sun over here, is very devoted to it's job.
The road to the market is very aesthetic. From the curves of the street, to the beautifully lined palm trees and the magnificent view of the sun, everything screamed BEAUTY. This particular road is dear to me because, apart from the fact that it's the straightest road to the market, it's the one of the most visually appealing in the whole school. I particularly love passing here because of how pretty the trees and the view of the sunset here is.
There was this particular tree that was named. Actually, it's the only named tree along the road and it's name is Flame of the Forest. Since I've known it, this tree has never been in full bloom. The flowers on it are usually scattered here and there but it always looks pretty nonetheless.
I eventually got to the market and things were quite cheaper than I had thought them to be. Taking a picture of the busy part of the market was not possible because the bike riders, stationed around, were not smiling. The first time I raised my phone to take a picture, one of the men that was positioned far from where I stood, asked me why I was taking his pictures. I told him I didn't take his picture but he wasn't open to hearing what I had to say. So, I left. Anyways, this is a picture of the inner part of the market. Notwithstanding the time, it was as busy as usual and it's good to see that things were in abundance.
The first thing I needed to buy was Kerosene and this was sold at the price I knew it for. I got eggs too. These eggs were sold cheaper than the price I'm used to buying it and i even considered buying more to keep but no. I was on a budget. The woman that sold the eggs was looking at me so suspiciously when I took a picture of the egg, like my lens was going to steal her eggs.😂 It seems sellers over here aren't content accommodating.
Well, the next thing I needed to buy was tomatoes and pepper. There was a time four peppers were sold for N200 but the amount of pepper sold to me today, at that same price would be enough to cook three full course meals. I was pleased because that meant my noodles, fried eggs and meals for the next two days would be made with fresh pepper.
It's carrot season!!! I've been seeing carrots around but I haven't gone to the market ever since to know how it was being sold. So, when the seller gave me so much at such little price, I was surprised and at the same time happy because yeahh, that meant my noodles and pasta wasn't going to lack carrots for as long as the vegetable was in season. Then I went for oranges. Oranges are one of the fruits I love best and since it's somewhat easy to find over here, I indulge in them a lot.
These oranges were greenish but sadly, this seller was the only one around. I knew that my next coming to the market might take a while, so I ended up buying very little. This particular seller was so cheerful that he smiled when he saw I took a picture of his oranges. That was really nice to see.
So, there guys! You have it. We've gone to the market and bought the most important things we needed. There wasn't really anything spectacular on my way back other than the fact that I met this particular market friend (I rarely see him at any other place that is not the market) Lol. Andd, that was it.
