Assimilating by what works

I like the idea of going to school, of being in a place with people that have the same goal as you and reminding yourself constantly that the main reason you're enduring every hurdle thrown your way is because you need to achieve your purpose of being there. I like coexisting in a space designed for people whose main purpose is learning. But I don't think I enjoy the whole process of learning in school.

Being in school for the fun I'll have with people around me, isn't even something I just realized. From my primary school days, I knew it. Then, every resumption, I was always excited for school. My brother and sister at that time, would stare at me in irritation at how excited I was, but I didn't care. I get to see my friends again. Same for secondary school. I anticipated going to school everyday mostly because of the boisterous laughter, the incessant arguments, and the gossips, we all shared.

Back then, in secondary school, we had this optional evening lesson that was usually held from 4 to 6. I would gladly stay back, for the fun. The teachers were lenient then, they were more friends than teachers, they related with us more then. It was one of those times I learnt of the movie YOU. That day our teacher sat us down and spoilt the series for us. We enjoyed it of course. But aside the fun, I wouldn't forget all the amazing topics I learnt back then.

From our physics teacher, who strode into the class at every free period, wanting to see what we could learn at that time, to our English teacher whom everyone dreaded writing his exams because his marking scheme was extraordinary, they've all succeeded in impacting the knowledge that got me to where I am today.

Since I entered the university, my enthusiasm for school, although still there, has dropped a bit. That's because schooling in a State University can and never will be compared to that in secondary school. Since my first year, 80 percent of every topic I learnt has been achieved through YouTube or other online learning platforms.

In my first year, I didn't really attend classes. The few I attended, I gained little or nothing from them and so, at every exam, I was left to the mercy of studying on my own or with the help of online platforms. There was this one semester sometime ago, I had a strict lecturer take a course I couldn't afford low grades in. In the whole semester, I only missed the class once. But guess what? l attended the whole class and when exams were near, I still found my way to YouTube.

There's just something about online learning that suits me best when it comes to productiveness. If I want to learn about something as quickly as possible, and make the most of it, online learning is my go-to option. I remember this one training I attended, we were given a video to learn and according to the trainer, it would take us quite some time to learn the course. I started it and in few days, I was done with it. Virtual learning works best for me, in terms of productivity but for the experience, I'm a lover of physical learning.

I think back then in secondary school, due to how accommodating the teachers were, I didn't have a problem with physical classes. I understood and assimilated better. But in the university, online learning works just as best for me.

This is my response to #digi-prompts for the week.

Thanks for Reading

Lecturers just "introduce" one to the concept, I like to think. I'll say I mostly truly learnt things deeply when I researched myself. The real lecturers are pretty much on YouTube these days. I wonder what learn-to-code platform that is.
