Amidst the Rush
Everything is moving so fast these days. The days, are going by in a blur. And in the rush, it is very easy to get lost in whatever it is we are doing at that moment, to see that precious time isn't wasted. We are quick to sacrifice the little things that although important, seem unproductive. There was this one time, I and my friend had planned a meet. We had planned a whole day of self care, bonding, and relaxation for that day. Only for her to cancel because she was assigned a job on that same day and I ended up going alone. When situations like these happen, it is left for us, to make time for ourselves in the midst of it all.
Everyday, I go to work, and when I come back, I do the little domestic duties I can, and then write a post here on hive. In doing all these, you'll find me trying to do them as quickly as possible, so I ensure I get enough sleep since I have to wake up early the next day. One of the things I prioritize in my self-care journey is quality sleep. For me to be at my best, I need sleep. If I get anything less than 6hours of sleep in a day, you'll find me dozing any moment I find myself sitting. It is even worse when I have to sit and stare at probably a lecturer or someone. Everything the person before me is saying will be a blur and so, most times, I do everything to ensure I get nothing less than six hours of sleep every day.
Even with six hours of sleep everyday, on weekends, I make sure to sleep in the afternoon. Can we all admit that afternoon naps always hit different from the regular night sleep? They're refreshing, they're soothing, they're calming. Afternoon naps are simply the best but due to the fact that I go to work, they're limited to weekends only.
Eating healthy, is one other thing I prioritize in my self care routine. I enjoy taking fruits like watermelon, oranges, pawpaw and so I indulge in them very frequently. The benefits of fruits, as we all know cannot be overemphasized. Most times, when I buy fruits, I buy it because I enjoy them and not only because of their usefulness. Fruits can be seasonal, and so, I make sure to eat as much of it when it is in season. Apart from fruits, I ensure I eat more protein, than I do any other food. After all, we've been told that protein contains almost all the classes of food. I'm a lover of egg. I can eat it anytime, anyday, in whatever form. So, in everything I eat, I make sure to consume as much protein - eggs, meat, fish- as possible.
Self-care isn't only about the internal and so when I can, or just feel like, I do my nails. I try to follow my skin care routine religiously as well and keep my hair done very regularly. Aside these things mentioned above, I don't think there's more to my self care routine or maybe I currently can't recall the others at the point of writing it. So, we'll go with these.

Same here, Sleep for me is also important. I think I get cranky if i dont get enough sleep. And if you could just imagine, I'm working on a night shift so also makes it extra hard to get that much needed night sleep.
Ohhh.... I can imagine. But you'll make up what you lose at night, during the day, won't you?
