A mascara and lip balm girlie - LOH #231

When I was younger, I always believed I was going to be a makeup girlie. I thought so because I was very enthusiastic about my mom's makeup tools, which she usually left on her dressing table. When she wasn't around, I'll pick up a lipstick, apply it and if there was a phone to take pictures, I'd take. If there wasn't, I'll strike all my poses in front of a mirror. If the lipstick was a shade I really liked, I'll leave it on till my mom got back and she'll give me that 'you have started again' look, comment on it, and let me be. But if it was something that I didn't like, or didn't suit me, I'll clean it off the moment I realize it. One thing I struggled with then, and still struggle with now, is lipstick. Lipstick inconveniences me a lot.

I'm not a lipgloss freak, I'm not a lipstick freak because yes, they inconvenience me. I can't press my lips together with lipgloss on, and not worry about it overflowing to the sides. I always think I'll end up looking like someone that finished eating a very oily meal. And that's why I go for lipbalms. Their mild glossy nature suits me so well and I love it.

After I outgrew my mom's lipsticks and indulged in other vanities, I didn't use them for a long time till few years ago when I got to live with other girls. My girls had so many lipglosses and I was surprised to see them have so many. Then too, I got my first phone. And at that time, two toned lips were trending in Nigeria. You line your lips with either a brown or black liner and if you wish, you add a shade of lipstick. But if you don't wish to, you gloss it up and go. As appealing as it always seemed, when I tried it out, I used a lip balm instead. It was later I found out that there was something called matte lips and that was what I had been practicing.

Now, the first time I tried going out with lipgloss instead of lipbalm, I felt so pretty at first but few hours into it, I began feeling weird. It was probably me overthinking it that day but I saw what I saw and didn't like it. And so, I chose balm instead even though I rub them off the moment I get home. It doesn't even help that they come with very cute containers.

The other makeup tool I am a huge fan of, is mascara. I've had my lashes done once before but after doing it, I blinked too many times in minutes and teared up too much so that made it an experience I'm not willing to relive anytime in the nearest future. So I decided to go for mascaras which I do once in a while, when I know I'm ready for the carefulness that comes with washing your face later at night. I love using mascara a lot but I'm really not the type that wakes up by 5am for a 7am event, so I don't find the time to do it a lot.

I have never done a full face makeup before. To enhance my looks, the only things I do is line my lips with a liner, use a lip balm and apply mascara to my lashes. From this post, you must have guessed that I'm not a huge lover of makeup, even if I haven't done it before. But still, I'm a fashion girlie all the way.
