5G and Human Hearts
In life, there are some memories you'll remember and waves of 'How did this make sense to me back then in the first place. How was I so gullible to have fallen for a farce like that?', hits you. There are particular things you'll be told that are just out of this world and you wonder how exactly, it came about - the thought process. If you're someone like me, you'll then link it to all the wonderful things the person who thought about that rumour, could have imagined, with a mind like theirs.
The #digital-lifestyle prompt for this week, asks for digital superstitions we've been told and although I can't really recall much, there's this particular one that's been stuck in my head ever since I heard it.
Growing up, I lived in an environment where everyone knew each other. We were pretty tight in the community and so, rumours were passed around very easily in the community. Thanks to that community, I have an interesting response to the prompt for this week.

Now, to our superstition for this week, I'm sure you're familiar with 5G networks right? Well, someone once told my mom, in my presence, that scientists planned on inventing internet providers that were 5G. And these networks, worked with the human heart. According to the lady, If you were browsing on a 5G internet provider, you'd find everything you're looking for, if it was about a person. There was even the possibility that you could read the person's thoughts since it's power source was the heart.

I'm sure you now see why I asked those two questions at the beginning. I honestly believed the story back then. You see, at that time, there were so many talks about how scientists could invent anything and everything. There were also talks of how the invention of technology was going to be the end of the world soon. So, I believe that was where this rumour sprang from, because you see, I began to resent scientists for creating things that would possibly end the world soon. The fact that I could harbour thoughts about someone, and that person could be reading them from his or her end, left me with so much anxiety.
Writing this now, makes me realize how absurd the story was. What exactly brought about the invention of 5G and the human heart, in one sentence? Oh boy, theories back then, wowed me. We're now very familiar with 5G network, aren't we? Till today, I've not come across someone who said google showed him or her, the thoughts of a person, because he's using a 5G internet provider. Even the dark web hasn't gotten such access, talk more of a regular 5G user.
Rumours like these back then, were quick to make waves, because technology wasn't so advanced, as it is today. Then, people feared inventions because they saw it as a give and take idea. But, linking 5G network to the human heart, is wild, and will forever remain so, to me.
This is my response to the digital lifestyle prompt for the week.
