My Second Visit to Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria

(Edited)

It had been a long time since I last saw a good friend of mine, and I finally decided to visit her in Ikorodu. I stay on the Island (Lekki-Ajah), so I had two options: either take the long road trip with unpredictable Lagos traffic or go by water. Since I wasn’t in the mood to spend hours on the road, I opted for the ferry from Badore (Tarzan Terminal)

I took a shuttle from my junction to Ajah then entered a Tricycle from Ajah down to the ferry terminal

And wow it was insanely fast! 🚀 In just five minutes, I was on the other side in Ikorodu. No stress, no long journey just a smooth ride over the water. I wasn’t scared, but let’s just say my mind was running wild with thoughts. 😂😂

When I got to Ikorodu, I needed a bike to my friend’s place. Now, here’s where things got interesting. I had no clue how much the usual fare was, so when the bike guy told me N2000, I tried to negotiate.

After some back and forth, he agreed to N1800, and I hopped on, thinking I had struck a fair deal. Then boom less than five minutes later, we arrived. I was shocked! I just spent N1800 for a five-minute ride?! At that moment, I did a quick mental calculation of my total expenses from my house to Badore, then the ferry fare, and now this overpriced bike ride. In total, I had spent an extra 3K, all because I wanted to avoid traffic. If I had taken the road, I would have saved some cash. But then again, no Lagos traffic wahala made it a little worth it.

Anyway, I didn’t complain. I saw my friend waiting at the junction, and from there, it was pure vibes! 🎉
We had an amazing time from cinema, lounges, meeting other friends, it was a well-spent trip. I ended up staying in Ikorodu for three days before it was time to head back home.
Now, the big question: should I take the road or water back? I gave it some deep thought. The traffic from Chevron down to Ajah can be a nightmare, and I wasn’t about to sit in it for 2 to 3 hours. Without thinking twice, I decided to take the ferry back.
But this time, I got a little Lagos wisdom. 😆 When I stopped a bike to the terminal, the guy called half the amount of what I had paid earlier! Half! 😭
I was mad, but I just locked up and still negotiated. Lagos hustlers will always hustle. 😂😂

Well, I just got home. Now sitting at home, reflecting on my trip, I can confidently say: water transportation is the way to go in Lagos! Yes, it costs more, but trust me, it’s way better than spending hours stuck in traffic.

Ikorodu was fun, though. Would I visit again? 100%!
Thanks for reading! 🚤😂
