Splinterlands | More Than Two Rules in Play | Let’s See How To Go About It

Splinterlands | Rules

One of the fun things about the Splinterlands game is the rules that we have to adhere to. Our strategy is based on the rules in play and the better strategy wins the game. Earlier days of battle were all about one rule in play. Then it increased to two and then more.

The difficulty (or the trickiness) increases with the increase in the number of rules. The best way to picture this is by getting to see the teams in action under multiple rules.

Shall we move to a battle then? Sure, but before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. It was founded in 2018 and is still going strong. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Multiple Rules in Play

Imagine rules that affect the melee, ranged, and magic attackers together in a battle. How would we strategize for such a rule? What kind of monsters will we take to battle? After all, irrespective of the attack type, all monsters will be affected.

There is a way. We have to think of shields, magic reflects, voids, etc. to make our monsters more immune to the rule. That’s what the game is all about. And that’s what makes it that much more fun.

Now, let’s look at the rules in play in our current battle.

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

Here are the rules for the battle.

MTTR_Rule.jpg

There are three rules to strategize around:

  1. Only Five Monsters Allowed
  2. No Shield
  3. Summoners Neutralized

The first rule means we get to use only five monsters instead of the regular six. So, it is a bit of a limiting rule. The second rule means our monsters won’t have shields, and therefore, are open to easy attacks from melee and ranged monsters alongside magic. The third rule means that our summoner’s abilities won’t be used in battle. In other words, the summoners are there only to select the monsters. The summoners themselves will be useless in battle.

To top all this, the battle is of 21-mana cap and only three splinters – fire, water, and earth – are allowed. Now starts the fun part of forming our team.

Let’s get going then.

The Face-Off Screen

I selected my monsters based on the rules and here is how the battle screen appeared.

MTTR_B1.jpg

The opponent and I both selected the Earth Splinter. My team is at the top of the screen while the opponent’s is at the bottom. I think the opponent missed one of the rules. As per the rule, the summoner stands neutralized. Despite that, the opponent chose a summoner with six-mana while I chose a summoner with three-mana cost. The choice of a lesser cap summoner allowed me to take more monsters into the battle. I think here itself I won part of the battle.

Will it translate to a win? Let’s see.

We Battle Hard

By the end of round 2, it was evident that having fewer monsters in battle was proving costly for the opponent.

MTTR_B2.jpg

My monsters were rampaging through the opponent’s Quora Towershead. The health of the opponent’s Quora was down to three while mine was still at eleven. Further, I still had three attacking monsters in good health.

Let’s see what happens next.

And The Battle Races to Conclusion

Before the end of round 4, the final blow was delivered.

MTTR_B3.jpg

My Quora first took out the opponent’s Quora in the third round. Thereafter, in the very next round, Quora finished off the opponent’s remaining two monsters. Curtains down and…

…. I won! 😊

A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result

The above battle is the exact reason why I like battles with more than two rules in tandem. Mostly we end up not planning for one of the rules and the opponent takes the cake. In this case, the opponent got it wrong with the summoner and I could easily win. The idea is to keep our eyes open for the rules and strategize for every one of the rules.

I loved the battle. How about you? I hope you enjoyed reading about the battle too. You can also look at it live in the link provided below. Have fun! 😊

Namaste!
