The Fear Of Getting Kidnapped Has Killed Our Love For Traveling.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Traveling is one of the few things I have loved from when I was a child. Whenever it is announced or made public that we will be traveling either to see an uncle or to the village for one function or the other, I always look forward to the day. From the day it is announced or we are told that we will be travelling, I become restless, and all I think about is the journey, the road, and the goodies my parents will buy for us in the course of the journey. If what is stopping us from traveling immediately is school, my new prayer point becomes for school to close as soon as possible.

Those days, one of the things I looked forward to was being told that we would be travelling, whether to a far destination or a close one; the fun and the excitement were all the same, even though I love and enjoy those with longer destinations more because before we arrive, I will have more experiences than when we travel a short distance. Those days at the mention that we will travel, there is joy and excitement in the air, but today the story is different. At the mention that we will be embarking on a journey, both kids and adults start to worry about what they encounter on the road. They ask questions like, "Do we arrive at our destinations safely, or do we call family and friends to send a ransom so we can come back alive and in good health?"

There are so many questions to ask, including do we arrive at our destination without falling into the hands of robbers that will take all our valuables from us, leaving us with nothing? The list of questions to ask before plying the Nigerian roads is too numerous to mention, and that has caused the excitement that comes with traveling, both for kids and adults, to reduce drastically, and instead of getting excited when told we will be traveling, we get scared.

Those days, traveling was fun even though the roads were not so good; it was safer and better than what we have today. Those days, you could travel 20 times and meet armed robbers or kidnappers just once, no matter the route you took, but today we have routes where you travel 20 times and there is a high possibility of meeting both armed robbers and kidnappers 20 times.

So can I take a solo trip? I love traveling, but considering my country's current insecurity level, I will say yes, but it totally depends on where I will be going or embarking on the journey to and how safe the road to my destination is considered or known to be. It all depends on where I am going and how safe or dangerous the road to where I am going to is known to be. If I were allowed to travel from one end of the country to another, I would take it depending on where and what is involved.

The challenges to be encountered are numerous, from kidnappers to armed robbers and from the high cost of transportation to bad roads; so many challenges will be faced when travelling the Nigerian roads.

There are areas and toads that we don't ply alone.

You spoke my mind.
Traveling used to be fun and easy in those days, with little or nothing to worry about but these days, one wrong step in the wrong place can put someone in serious trouble.

The headline got me laughing even before I could read it😂😂
The good old days when traveling was fun and exciting. So sad to see that insecurity has taken that excitement away

You know my work has collaboration with Nigeria companies, and we were supposed to send people to Nigeria, but since the security level isn't recommended, the administration vetoed the trip lol...well maybe it will get better soon =P

The insecurity level is affecting not just individuals but the country's economy as well.
