That one meal that left a mark.

Hello, everyone

I welcome you to my blog. We all have that one food that we ate once, and it left a mark; some we ate when we were just kids, and to date, whenever we perceive the aroma of that particular food, it takes us right back to the very first day we had the taste of it that left a scar. There are some goods we have been eating all our lives, but they did not leave a mark, but because there is a manner in which someone prepared them and that changed the story, and whenever we get to eat them again, we go right back to that day. Comfort food varies from one individual to another; the food that does it for you differs from the food that does it for me.

Comfort meals can be any food, but it can only be considered a comfort meal if whenever you eat it, you get a feeling no other meal gives you. Every meal, dish, or food you eat cannot all give you the same feeling. There are some that you just eat and not get any feeling, and there are some meals that, once eaten, take you way back to the first time you had it more like nostalgia. Comfort meals, I believe, are meals like that, those meals that give you passage to the past.

A comfort meal is believed to be any dish, meal, or type of food, whether local or foreign, that provides us with the solace we need, and it is believed to be often associated with nostalgia, emotional comfort, and a lot of other things. Comfort meals provide you with a level of calmness no other meal or dish can provide you. I don't know if it is possible to have more than one comfort meal because for me only one meal can give me that satisfaction.

It all happened years ago; it should have been during my primary school days. I came back from school famished, tired, and exhausted as always, and Mom used a well-prepared rice and beans to bring me back to life. She made stew and added dried, or should I say smoked, catfish. There was meat in it but it was cut into tiny pieces such that every spoon you took was accompanied by a piece of meat. She added a leaf called a scent leaf; it gave the stew a different taste and aroma. Since that day till today, whenever I eat rice and beans, my heart, mind, body, and soul go running back to this particular day. I cannot say I have tasted any rice and beans like that again, but everyone I taste reminds me of that particular day.

I don't even know if rice and beans should be considered a comfort meal, but it does the magic and works for me.

I’m not sure how the particular rice and beans you’re talking about is prepared but the one I know sure is a comfort food for me. And I agree with you, it sure does magic.
