Tax is the talk of the town.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog. We have been paying taxes since time immemorial, but unfortunately in this part of the world a group of people called our leaders take all the money for themselves and their generations to come, leaving nothing for the masses. Trust me, I can say that if the money paid as tax was being used to make life better for the masses, then we wouldn't have this many complaints and grumbling about tax. In a working country, you will see good roads constructed using the money the people pay as tax, and you will see water and other basic amenities made available for the people, and it is all from the tax paid by the people.

In working countries the government takes from the people and still gives back to the people; they provide them with good roads, water, and other basic amenities, and most of all, in order to make life easy for the people they are taking from, they make jobs available, but down here things are completely different, as our government only wants to take from us. No good roads are provided, no basic amenities are provided, and the most terrible thing happening down here is the lack of jobs, so why take from people who struggle all on their own with no help from the government that is supposed to make life easier and better?

Trust me, we all want to see results. We have been paying taxes since time immemorial with no evidence to show for it. Even if it were to be you who was paying money without results, at some point you would get tired of doing so. For that reason, I cannot blame those who don't want to pay their taxes anymore in this country. Our government keeps looking for ways to take without giving back to the people they are taking from, even if it is in small ways, but they only keep coming up with ways to take from the masses. All of a sudden, they started charging 50 naira for every transfer above 10,000 naira aside from other offline taxes and even online taxes, and to date, I have not heard anywhere that they came to give an account to the public of how the money gotten from all the taxes is spent.

Sometime last year they announced something called income tax, and everyone earning up to 800,000 naira will be charged about 12% of their annual income as tax starting January 2026. Since then there have been different stories about how you can evade this particular tax. I was worried at first, but I don't think I am anymore, as I think this is the stroke that will break the camel's back and cause Nigerians to react. The same people you made life so hard for provided them with no jobs, and the little they are earning is not even enough for them, and you still want to take from there. All I can say is let's be watching how it unfolds.
