Success and how we define it changes overtime.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog. The word success holds different meanings, and it all depends on the individual and how they see it, and whichever way they define it from their own perspective is still very much correct and not in any way wrong. The only people who are wrong about success and its definition are those who feel every individual should see success the same way and not differently. Success holds different meanings and is seen from different perspectives; expecting everyone to see it the same way is quite wrong and something no one should do.

Growing up as a kid, I felt success revolved around emerging the winner of every competition one is involved in and achieving goals and objectives either as a team or as an individual, and I hung onto that belief for a very long time and did not allow anybody to tell me otherwise. Those days I did not see little wins as success; I believed for anything to be considered success it had to be big and, if possible, loud, so then I disregarded small wins and only celebrated the big wins. I went as far as trying to get friends to see success the same way I see it; when friends try to celebrate their small wins, I discourage them from doing so.

Over time how I define success changed again. I started thinking success revolves around attaining fame and having wealth, having all the money in the world and being able to do whatever I wanted and go wherever I wanted, and that only put me under a lot of pressure because at a point I was not able to achieve all of that, but I saw people, some even my mates, achieve all that I consider success, and at that point I started telling myself how unsuccessful I am and how left behind I am. Trust me, when you put yourself in a competition, the only feeling that comes with such is a depressing one, no two ways about it.

Currently I see success as a lot of things and not just the few things listed above. Success is being able to overcome challenges and celebrate your wins, whether big or small. Success is being able to have the life you dream of. Succeeding is being able to do things for yourself, especially those things you could not do for yourself. Being able to do them now is success, but many people have their eyes on the big bag and disregard the ability to do certain things for themselves, things that before now they never imagined they could do for themselves.

In all, for you to call and acknowledge something as a success, there has to be personal fulfillment, which is feeling content with your achievements, whether big or small, appreciating the pace at which you are achieving them, and being willing to do more.

The conclusion of the post is just golden. Indeed, there has to be this fulfillment where you celebrate your wins whether big or small. And also give yourself enough grace for all that you’ve been able to achieve over time.
