Reading paperbacks can be difficult these days.
Hello, everyone.
I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. With each passing day our world continues to evolve and move towards becoming a world where everything can be done online, on a computer, or on a smartphone, making a lot of things that we are used to become obsolete or considered old school. Today, people rarely use our physical libraries because all they need can actually be gotten online and from the comfort of their homes, and these have made libraries and paperbacks become obsolete and are rarely considered when one wants to do anything.
I have friends who, when you give them paperbacks or physical books to read or use for study, will tell you that they cannot do it; they feel too lazy to use paperbacks or physical books for study, as they are used to e-books, e-libraries, PDFs, and Word documents. As long as it is a soft copy, they can read it on their phones, laptops, or computers; they do not have a problem, but a physical book they just cannot do it, and so they put themselves through the stress of either converting the physical book given to them into a PDF or searching for it online. This is how much technology has affected our lives; who would have thought that a time would come when physical books would be considered old-fashioned?
I also prefer e-books and e-libraries, but mine is not that bad, as there are times when I prefer to read from physical books because of the distractions that come with e-books. With e-books and e-libraries, you are easily distracted and carried away; you can be reading, and a social media notification pops up, and then you rush to check it out and then forget to go back to what you were doing, and then you get carried away and spend time doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. For this reason, I most of the time prefer to read from physical books, as I keep my phone and laptop far away.
The last physical book I read was about mental and emotional health. This year I have had to deal with a lot, and I stumbled on the book in a friend's room and felt the need to read it, and it was really a good read. The author tries to reach out and teach people how to manage emotions and mental health, as there is a thin line between having your emotions and mental health all worked up and falling into depression. So many people are depressed without even knowing they have actually crossed the thin line. Knowing how to manage your emotions and mental health is a win for you as an individual.
With all we have going on as individuals trying to achieve our dreams in a country like mine, where the system is fighting against us, all that does a lot to our emotions and our mental health; it leaves scars and injuries that, if not managed properly, can leave one damaged for a very long time, if not for life. In the book the author explains the signs that, once you notice them, you know you are starting to cross the line and slowly falling into depression, as depression is not something that happens overnight; it takes time until it finally has its grip on you.
I cannot say when next I will read a physical book, but once I see one that catches my attention, I am definitely giving it a read and learning more. Reading helps improve your knowledge; many people don't know, but it does help.
good to know you loved reading a book and learned a lot from it. also, it helps you.
If I read a book I get sleepy and my head hurts when I can't understand haha.
That's right, Technology has made life easier, Most times I prefer reading ebooks compare to physical books
Technology has made a lot of things easier, gone are those days when the only way to access a book is to visit a library. Now we have e-libraries, a digital library anyone can visit without leaving their comfort zone.
I read ebooks as well and this mostly happens to me when the book I'm reading has to do with academics. But if it's story-driven ones, the probability of me getting distracted is quite low. It's twisted I know 😅.
I love physical books more but I haven't been able to get one for a while now so I just stick to ebooks.
