Many online apologies hold no weight.
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Gone are the days when people said sorry and apologized because they meant it. These days, people just say what people want to hear, not because they mean it, nor will they turn a new leaf after apologizing to show that they were genuinely sorry for the wrong they did. Instead, they say sorry and go back to doing exactly what they apologized about a few minutes ago, showing how disingenuous apologies and sorries can be these days. They just look around and see what they stand to lose, and then they do what they have to do to keep it. These days, the word sorry somehow feels like a manipulation.
I have seen cases where a person tries to use the manipulative way of apologizing that is trending these days to get a friend to forgive them, and when they realize the friend is adamant about not doing so, they decide to show that from the very beginning the whole apologizing and acting like they were indeed sorry was just pretense, and they never meant it from the beginning. These days it's very difficult to differentiate between someone who is genuinely sorry and someone faking it because even those faking it do it better than those who are genuine. Saying sorry and apologizing means nothing if after saying that you will go back to doing the same things you just apologized for.
For me, many video apologies our celebrities or wannabes make online are just for clout and to catch engagement or maybe still keep their followers and not get canceled online because many of them depend on their followers and engagements for their pay to come in, so in most cases, a video apology is just for the money, for the engagement, and to keep their online family, as the more followers you have, the more room for bragging you get.
Like in the case of a famous TikToker, we all must have heard of Peller when the 30-day rant was ongoing and Nigerians were using almost all the social media platforms to rant and call out the government, including TikTok. He made a video saying things like Nigerians should take their rant elsewhere and not spoil things for them, as well as leave TikTok for them before Nigerians cause TikTok to be banned in the country, thereby causing them to lose their source of income. When Nigerians called him out and asked that he be unfollowed, he did not say a word, nor did he come out to apologize.
After about three days, he saw that Nigerians meant business and had lost over 100k, and he came to make an apology video saying he did not mean things the way Nigerians took it. We all know that if he had not seen that he was losing followers, and if nothing is done, he might lose even more followers. I trust he wouldn't have done that apology video. 9 out of 10 apology videos made online are for their own benefit and not because they care or are genuinely sorry for what they did; they know what they stand to lose if they fail to do so. They just make it to remain on the good side of the public; they don't mean it.

This is so spot on , I something listen to an apology and move on cause I already have it in mind that this person's apology is fake so I accept apology and move on with my life. I don't give second chances to let them give me a season 2 of what they had initially shown me.
Once bitten , carry your slippers and run .
I can't be twice shy for people these days, cause they all know what they're doing
😂😂
Your last line got me, just run don't even wait for them to apologise finish.
With the advent of social media, a lot of things have been misplaced. It's becoming harder to find true friendship, real love, and trustworthy people. The internet has brought in a new wave of connections, but not all of them are genuine. That’s not to say sincere people no longer exist, but the kind of friendships and relationships we often see on social media can’t always be trusted as real. People only show care to others on social media provided it helps to grow their following or help them to grow their own interest. The case of Peller, is example, why would he support something on a platform that pays him so much, it that was to his own interest he would have supported wholeheartedly.
Sincere people still exist but like you said the internet's new wave of connections makes it difficult to differentiate between the genuine and the fake. These days many only care about what benefits them.
Thanks for your comment Sir Collins.
These days, many apologies feel more like damage control than true remorse. It's sad how “sorry” has lost its meaning because people now say it just to save face, not to make things right. Actions always speak louder than words, If there's no change after an apology, then the apology means nothing.
Exactly, they just try to minimise the damage their actions caused not because they feel remorseful. You have said it all my boss lady.
See you friday evening 😂.
You're right, celebrities are only saying sorry because of the fear of losing fans and their source of income. Why saying sorry when you know you will still go back to the same thing you apologised for.
They just use the dirty to deceive people and ensure that their source of income is not tampered with.

Some fake apologies sometimes look real..
You see that place you said the word sorry has become manipulated , you are definitely right on this. I experienced this and it's actually not a good thing at all
Sometimes we end up believing a fake apology because of how they do it.
