Is Money Spent On Sports A Waste Or Not?

I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Over the years we all must have observed that one of the few things that brings people together is sports, whether international or local. The one thing that brings about unity and setting aside our differences (tribe, religion, beliefs and even skin colour) is sport, and I doubt there is any other thing out there that can do it like sports does. For guys who love to watch football and do so at a viewing centre where you meet people you don't even know from Adam, but if it happens that you both support the same team, you guys bond and unite, giving your team the support they need to win and making both you as a fan happy and the entire team.

Sports, whether football, table tennis or just any sport, brings about unity; it is the only thing we humans come out in masses to support as well as enjoy, and nothing brings people from around the globe together the way sport does. There is no doubt that hosting or organising any sports costs a lot of money, and the amounts needed to host or organise any sports can be outrageous, but that is what is needed to make it fun and enjoyable while breeding unity amongst humans. Nobody will actually leave their comfort zone to be part of the fun if the space where it is happening is not made comfortable enough.

The money spent hosting or organising any sport can actually be channelled into making life a lot better for thousands of people struggling around the globe or channelled into making a particular country better; it can also be used to take a lot of people off the streets, giving them a home, but how about the positivities that these sports spread? How about the advantages that come with having these games hosted and people coming to enjoy them? One of the organisations, or should I say firms, I know that have zero tolerance for racism is sports, especially football, where those who try to be racist are penalised and punished for doing so.

When it comes to debating if money spent on sports is a waste or not, we all have our different opinions on that. There are those who are not sport lovers and for that reason will want that money spent on hosting and organising sports to be spent on something else, and when asked, they might probably choose something they like. In the case they are religious, they'd tell you to spend the money on any religious thing but definitely not sport. We also have sport lovers who don't mind spending every resource available on hosting and organising sports, making sure that those who come to enjoy the fun, unite and relate with each other are comfortable.

For me, I am a sport lover and don't think the money spent on sports is a waste. We have money allocated to everything; let the one set aside for sports be used to make it more memorable for sport lovers, and let the one set aside for other things be used to sort them out. Sports is one of the few things that makes life more lively and enjoyable for many of us; tampering with the resources will disrupt this fun.
