Homework can be scary, but it helps.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Home work is a tradition that have been in existence since time immemorial, I remember those days whenever we come back home from school the first question my mom ask us is "were you given any homework?" And if you have one two that you need assistance with she was willing to help and if she cannot help she refers you to an uncle or an aunty that lives in the neighborhood she trust to actually help you get it done and not just get it done but will explain it to you until you understand it.

Many parents believe that any school that does not give the students homework is not a good school, many parents when they ask like twice and both times you don't have any homeworks to do then they already have something to complain about in the next PTA meeting, this is because parents know how important homework is and how it will help the child. Home works causes the child to go over what they have been taught, that way they get to understand it better and master it.

The mistake many parents, elders, and senior siblings make is to just help a younger one get their homework done without even trying to help them understand what was done. They do it like the aim is to just get the mark, but the main aim for that assignment is to help the student understand the subject and the topic better. We all are a living testimony of what homework can do. Academic activities being restricted to happening only within school premises and school hours will not in any way help the student; rather, it will cause them to be lazy.

I remember those days whenever we were not given any homework, we completely avoided our books until the next day, and when we were in school and we were asked any question, we would not be able to answer it, and to a point, it felt like we had lost touch completely with what we were taught just the previous day, while those who, after going home, went back to read would be the ones answering. This proves the importance of homework. It helps the student to keep in touch with what they were taught, helps them to understand it better, and helps the students memorize what was taught.

During my time as a student in primary school and high school, I so much loved homework. I preferred homework to classwork because I had an uncle and my mom to explain things for me until I was able to understand them. These two people explained things for me way better than the teacher, and every day I looked forward to being given homework because that is how I learn. Those days I didn't learn in school, I learned at home, and my portal or gateway to getting to learn was whenever I was given homework.

No more homework will only cause our educational system to deteriorate even more. Students are no longer serious with their studies; many students don't want to read anymore, and if given the opportunity not to read anymore, they will accept it with open arms. Homework will force them to read, homework will cause students to act like students, and a no-more-homework academic system will be detrimental to the students.

When you help them do the homeworks, you really end up defeating the aim of extended learning and that was the point of it all.
But when you take time to make them go through it just guiding them through, it makes children understand the concept better and imbibe the habit of studying even after school hours.

I also complain when for a while my kids don't come home with an assignment. Homework is so good because reading culture is not easy to be built even as an adult, as you said most children avoid their books when they don't have a home work to perform

A good balance between school and home and other tasks is essential for student motivation.

Homework was there right before time, and it was a good tool for us to understand and retain what our teacher taught us on class. Thank you for sharing.
