Finally realized adulthood comes with no days off.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog. As a kid I looked forward to growing up just because of how much freedom I saw adults in my neighborhood enjoying. My parents scolded and yelled at me whenever I came back home late, whereas adults in my neighborhood came back at late hours of the night and were welcomed with open arms with food served on the table for them. I hated leaving an interesting conversation with friends all because I had to meet up with my parent's timing in order to avoid getting yelled at, so I wanted to become a grown-up so I could come back when I wanted, get to eat as much food as I wanted, and enjoy the type of freedom grownups in my neighborhood back then were enjoying.

Trust me, I never knew I had to pay a price to enjoy all that grown-ups enjoy. The grown-ups boxed things up so well and made it look like adulthood was fun and completely relaxing. Maybe if they had said something or even given a hint or tip, I would have enjoyed my childhood while it lasted and not be in a hurry to actually become a grown-up. Being an adult comes with no days off; adulthood does not even give you the time to rest as you move from overcoming this task to overcoming another.

If you get a day off as an adult, then you gave yourself that day off to rest, as outside of that, you are expected to be doing this or that every now and then with little or no time to actually get some rest. Sometimes if you give adulthood the chance, it will keep you busy 24/7 and leave you with little or no time for yourself, for family, or even for the things you like. There were days when I had all the time in the world, and I could actually choose what I spent my time on, but it is no longer so, as I don't even have spare time to engage in some other things that I need to do, not to talk more of considering to engage in things i like.

I looked forward to graduating like my life depended on it, as I thought that after graduation the stress would go away and I would have time for myself, but then the reverse was the case, as I became even more busy after graduation. I had to carry out my undergraduate project experiment that had to do with the drying of crayfish and periwinkle almost immediately after graduation, and that really traumatized me, as I spent about 3 days to see that through.

inages used are mine.

Now I am done with the experiment, and I have been busy with getting the paperworkdone as well as discussing what I observed during the experiment and doing the discussion, and at the same time I am trying to process my clearance by going to different offices to get my clearance form stamped and signed. It just feels like the life after graduation I pictured is completely different from the life I am currently living, as I have been way busier since after graduation than I have ever been.

After clearance and moving to the next phase of my life, there will be more tasks to overcome and more things to do, which proves that adulthood gives you no days off. Finally realised adulthood will not give you a time off but you just have to find a way to give yourself some rest for the sake of your health.

childhood dreams of “freedom” often miss the fine print that adulthood is an endless loop of responsibilities. The real skill, is u learning to carve out your own rest before burnout takes over u

Adulthood is generally a different thing from childhood.
