Electronic books have taken the place of libraries in our lives.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. The continuous evolvement of technology has had a great impact on our way of life and has really changed how things used to be. In those days without paperbacks or our hardcopy books, there was no other way we could actually have access to the books or materials we needed, but technology has really changed the narrative, as today with our smartphones, laptops, or iPads, we can actually access these books and materials from anywhere in the world. Technology has made a lot of courses look obsolete because it has been able to modernize a better and an easier way compared to what we used to have.

Here in school, those studying the course library and information science are always being teased with the question, "Where will you work after graduation because libraries are slowly going extinct?" It is hard to come by a good and functional library these days; those that are struggling to stay in the picture are not getting the encouragement they need to do so from the community because they rarely get people walk through their doors or stopping by to ask them questions as everyone has adopted the use of eBooks and the internet.

Those days the library was the only source and means to carry out research; for any scholar or researcher to carry out research, visiting and spending time in the library was a must-do, but today, technology has changed the narrative and has made things easier and better, as research can be carried out and done from the comfort of our homes without even needing to step outside. It is nearly impossible not to find the book or necessary materials needed to carry out any research or work online. Those days people traveled miles to locate a library, but today they just need to walk a few steps from their bed to the table where their laptop or computer is.

Technology has reduced the stress one has to undergo before they are able to carry out research or have access to a book they would like to read. Traveling miles and having to undergo the procedures that involve using a library was one of the major problems people had to deal with before the evolvement of technology, but technology has been able to remove that stress from our lives, and after all, no one enjoys stress, and we all embraced the change offered to us by technology, and now all we need are the necessary gadgets, and we can access all that we need from anywhere in the world with network connectivity.

So do we still need libraries? Should the resources allocated to the library be allocated to something else?

Source

For me, I will say no, we do not need libraries anymore, as people rarely use them these days. In my city we have a state library and my school library, and the only one still a bit functional is my school's library, as the state library has been shut down for quite some time now, and no one felt the impact or complained about it being shut down. We have many library structures that have closed down atound the country too, but we still have funds being allocated to their maintenance, which would be considered a waste of resources and funds, so for me, instead of allocating funds to library maintenance, they should be allocated to other sectors that are functional and more beneficial, as we can actually have access to all that we need online and electronically.

There was a time library was the only way we can assess almost all the books needed. But nowadays ebooks have taken over and have rewrite the narrative....

Yeah, technology has reduced the stress people have to undergo. Sitting in the comfort of your home to do your research work is exciting and encouraging. I liked it this way, than going under the scorching sun to find books.
