CNF: The Valentine's Day Heartbreak.

Valentine's Day is one of the days that I think actually deserves to be a holiday so that those celebrating it can celebrate it in a grand style and they can make more memories together. It is a day where we spread love not just for lovers; you can spread love in the little way you can. Valentine's Day was drawing close, and my neighbor Stanley would not give it a break; he posts about it on his WhatsApp status, and whenever we are together, he talks about it and how he plans to surprise his girlfriend with gifts upon gifts.

How he talked about surprising his girlfriend and the gifts he plans to give only caused us to wish for Valentine's Day to come and go so that we can go back to living our lives and we can hear something else.

"Bro, you know relationships these days are not always so deep; it can be deep on your side, but you never know what your partner or the other person has in mind." Samuel warned after Stanley would not keep quiet about the forthcoming Valentine's Day.

"That is the scary thing about relationships these days; you might be genuine, but you will never know what the other person has in mind." Dera jumped in, supporting Samuel.

"That is for you guys; as for me, I am genuine, and she is genuine as well, so you guys have nothing to worry about." Stanley responded.

"If you say so, then who are we to argue?" Samuel said as he got back to working with his laptop.

"I know why you guys are saying these things; probably because you are single, and singles have nothing to do with Valentine's Day." Stanley teased.

"Damn, I feel attacked." Dera said as she went mute.

What Stanley said got to the single guys, and they stopped attacking and just focused on their phones and laptops while Stanley went on and on about his Valentine's Day surprise for his girlfriend, but this time nobody said a word even though we were tired of listening to what he had to say about his Valentine's Day plan; he forced it down our ears. Finally, the big day came, and he kept making calls to vendors and telling them where to deliver everything he ordered, as he planned to take them to her place later in the evening when everything was ready.

"Bro, don't you think you are doing too much?" Samuel asked, seeing the things he bought.

"No, nothing is too much if you love a person." Stanley responded.

"So what has she given you? Did you hear them make any plans for you?" I asked.

"Ehhhn, answer Kachi's question because it is important that we know." Samuel supported

"I have not heard her make any plans, oo, and that is true, but still I will give her what I have gotten before I start expecting anything in return." Stanley responded, smiling sheepishly.

"You are a finished man, bro; your healing process will take very long if things go sideways." I said.

"Singles are just pained and hate love." Stanley responded.

"Okay." I said to him as I stopped responding and let him enjoy his love.

The time he planned to take all the goodies he bought to her place came, and he freshened up in his best attire and headed out.

"See you singles later." Stanley said as he waved us goodbye.

"Enjoy your day, lover boy." Dera said it and was the only person that responded.

Finally, some peace and quiet. After Stanley left, we all had some peace and quiet as everyone focused on their work and no one said a word to the other. We waited for hours, but we did not see him post anything on his WhatsApp status, and that was unlike him; he would have posted a video or two already, but we felt he was saving everything for later even though we felt it was unusual. It was almost 10pm; he was not back and still not a single post. We decided to call him on the phone to know if he was okay.

We called twice, and he did not pick up, and that alone confirmed that he was not okay.

"Call that number again; he might pick this time." Dera suggested

And like Dera suggested, we called again, and this time he picked up but did not say a word.

"Stanley, are you okay?" We all chorused, but he was still quiet until we had a sniff like someone who has been crying.

We all tried to hold back our laughter, and we asked again, "Are you okay?"

"I am not okay, bro; all these while I have been the side dude to a girl I took to be my all in all." Stanley said as he started crying uncontrollably.

"Where are you? Let's come and pick you up, and please don't do anything stupid." Samuel said.

"I went there, and I met her with another guy, and she just told me to forget about her; she was not serious with me, bro. I have never been this embarrassed in my life." Stanley said over the phone.

"We tried to warn him too, and he said singles hate love." Dera said with a mischievous smile on his face as we put on clothes to go get him.

"A Valentine's Day to remember." I said as we all burst into laughter.

Chai. That breakfast (slang for breakup) is wow.
I love relationship but this is why I don't invest too much in it, because I know the damage it can do to a person if betrayed.

I am sure you guys enjoyed laughing about it 😹 after his initial talk about Singles hating
