CNF: Life After Graduation
I knew a time like this would come from the moment I stepped foot in this school, but I did not know it would hurt this much and cause this much sadness. The only thing I looked forward to from the day I arrived here was graduation. I was in a hurry to graduate, but all of that had to change when I met my amazing friends, and at that moment I realised that graduating will only cause us to go our separate ways and start a new chapter of our lives. I did not look forward to graduation anymore, but it still happened anyway, and even though we have not moved out of school completely, I can already see how difficult it is to start a new chapter.
Starting all over again in a different state, having to meet new people, make new friends and new acquaintances and probably getting a job that will take all of your time makes life after graduation quite bothersome. I thought I was the only one bothered about the new chapter of my life that I will be starting immediately after graduation, but a hangout with friends made me realise everyone was worried and didn't know the next step to take. After graduation we went for a boys' hangout, and it was at that point that I realised everyone was worried about the new chapter of our lives we are about to start.
Everyone was smiling and happy that the phase of our lives as undergraduates had just come to an end until Victor started a conversation that changed the atmosphere.
"A few weeks or maybe months after graduation, I will be moving all of my stuff to Rivers State; that is where I will settle." Victor said as he opened his drink.
"Have you already made up your mind on where you'd settle and start this new chapter?" Dera asked with surprise written all over his face.
"Some of us are still confused and lost and don't even know our next step." I chipped in.
"It is not my own doing; my uncle said to come, and he will guide me through." Victor responded with, "Left to me, if I had the power, I would have shifted our graduation, and that way we would have enough time to prepare for this new chapter." Victor added as he slapped his forehead.
"It feels like we are walking into a different space. I don't even know if my first step should be with my left leg or with my right leg. I am more than confused; I am lost, bro." Dera lamented bitterly.
"If you have uncles and aunties, I think this is the best time to reach out. I think you need them to find your feet, so I advise you all reach out." Victor advised as he gulped down his beer.
"My uncles and aunties will only make promises and never fulfil them; I will still try to reach out, though, and see how that goes." Dera said with worry written all over his face.
Dera's respond is something I can also relate to, my uncles and aunties deserve an award for how much promises they have made and failed to fulfil any
"So do you guys want to go into entrepreneurship and own your own businesses or you want to go for a 9-5 job?" Victor asked
"That is why I said I am lost and confused, I don't even know what to do, start up a business or a 9-5 job working for someone else, I don't know which to go into." Dera said with a sad tone.
"The truth is that I think everyone is scared of new beginnings, but they still do it anyway. Also, we cannot avoid starting all over again from time to time; we just have to accept that fate and start something even if we feel lost." I suggested
"I think you have a point; people have done this before us, and they were able to find their way. Our case won't be any different." Dera agreed.
New chapters are inevitable in life. I think new chapters prove that we are actually making progress in life, and now we have stepped into one and have no other choice than to find a way to accept it and make sure it favours us.
Yes, everyone is scared of new beginnings but we still take that step and with a leap of faith, too. But what matters most is that you took the step.
Taking the step no matter how scared you are is very important.
Thanks for stopping by.
I felt every word of this post. You are right new chapters are proof that we are moving forward. You have described it perfectly. Beautifully written! 🌷
Thanks for stopping by.
This was the same shoe I was into last year when I just graduated. I was really nervous about what life holds after school
You found your way eventually, hopefully I find mine too.
Indeed new chapters are inevitable. Nice story and thanks for sharing
Thank you for stopping by.
The same way you met new friends in school, you'll meet better once as life continues... Trust me. And you don't need to possess the power to shift the time of graduation further, because it will only come again without any significant preparation.
The vast way to prepare for life is to face it and not run away from it
Thank you very much for your kind words.
You're welcome 😉
It's quite funny how time flies, and in a twinkle of an eye, you see the next chapter unfolding before you.
We can only hope to be ready whenever the time comes
Nice story
