April Fool: Missed out on all the fun.

We all know how April Fool's Day goes. On this day, we are all extra careful so we are not victims of these pranksters going around looking for someone to prank. The funny thing is that on this day, you don't even know who is out to prank you, so you just have to beware of everyone and think about how you deal with them. On April Fool's Day, everyone becomes a prankster. On that day, even expensive jokes come into play, some that even cause one a heart attack, but no one really cares as it is April Fool's Day. Some even go as far as faking deaths and scaring loved ones.

There is only one April Fool's Day I will never forget; it still hurts to this date. If I am not mistaken, my mom was a member of a cooperative society. It is a tradition that at the end of every year a party is hosted where all members come together to enjoy and be merry, but 2020 ended without any part because of the Corona virus pandemic and the whole social distancing stuff. So in 2021, the pandemic issue died down a little, and they decided to fix a date for the party so as to mark the end of the previous year and the beginning of a new one. Better late than never.

They decided the party would be held on the 1st of April, and it was scheduled for 4 p.m. We all looked forward to that day, and it finally came. While we prepared and waited for the hour, we were busy avoiding falling for pranksters too. No one wants to be fooled. I did everything carefully, and it was time. I put my best clothes on and followed my mom out; every other part of the party was not my problem. I was looking forward to when they would share the food, meat, and drinks. The aroma of the food from the kitchen traveled far and wide and left me fantasizing.

They kept going on and on, adjusting the constitution and so many other things, delaying getting to the part that interested me. Finally, it was time, and we were seated at the back, but the sharing of food and drinks started from the front, only for my mom's phone to ring, and she had to step out to take the call. The next thing I had was people screaming outside. Despite my attention being totally focused on the food, I felt the need to check what was going on since my mom was outside, only to come out and see my mom sitting on the ground. I ran to meet her, and she just kept saying fire. What's with the fire.

That's when she opened up, that someone called her that our house is on fire. My heart sunk but I still wanted to eat 😂, I was forced to follow her home though reluctantly but I had to. It was about 10 minutes drive, only to get to the house and everything was intact it was our neighbor's child that pulled the prank on us. I almost cried, missed out on the meat I had already fantasized about all because of his prank. If only murder was not a crime that day.
