D&D Session 8 Recap - The Hag and the Hut

As I've talked about before, I'm trying to use both HIVE and Obsidian as my repositories for everything related to my D&D game. This gives me a place for my players to access important notes via my Player Resources Collection, and Obsidian makes drafting notes quick and easy.

As I've also only recently finished creating a calendar for my world, this was the first session where actual dates were discussed. We had established vaguely what season things were happening in, but now thanks to Obsidian's Callendarium plugin which I talked about in my World Details post, I've been able to keep track of exactly what day things have happened on, which is a huge help as far as bookkeeping goes.

I like knowing when things happened in-universe, and while I have a lot of historical events to add to the calendar... this has been a huge help in keeping track of the passage of time in my game.

To that end, we recently ran another game and the bullet-list recap of it is below:

  • We were down one player; Yuantine was unavailable so is assumed to be in the Mansion or within the city.

  • Peril accepted John's Contract

  • Players did a bit of shopping

  • Peril bought some more health potions

  • Muk-Muk bought a dwarven-made toddler pen for his Hands, so he can continue training them.

  • Syl bought some silver powder and a few odds and ends.

  • Gwynne spotted the three cats from the Mansion as shopping was ending

  • They were grabbed by a strangely long-armed woman, who then rushed back to her humble hut, at the back of the Peaks bridge.

  • Gwynne rushed in and chased her, but found an empty room. She trashed the place, and was eventually joined by Muk-Muk, and then finally by Syl and Peril.

  • the party eventually noticed magical items

  • A stewpot on the fire

  • A cookbook for cannibals

  • A pair of strange rectangles on the walls on either side of the fireplace.

  • The walls were doors, and the party split. Gwynne charged into the right-side door, through the empty room full of bones, and got into it with a troll and several troll whelps. She survived two rounds and was joined by Syl

  • Peril and Muk-Muk went through the left door, assuming it went to the same place. They were subsequently attacked by a Chimera, and almost died. Muk-Muk was knocked out, and Peril was reduced to 2hp. He retreated and pulled MM with him.

  • Gwynne and Syl managed to beat the troll and meet up with the others just in time to focus down the Chimera. Having beat both mini-bosses, they opt to hop into the Mansion and block the exit door from within the hut's entrance.

  • So far the party has not looted anything from the encounter, except the Stewpot and the cannibal cookbook.

As you can see, there is a lot more back-linking I'm doing on Obsidian - but that will hopefully expand as I keep doing this. I've been making notes of when I publish something here, so that I can easily link to it here when I need. For example, on my Obsidian notes I have a tag for Hive and a link to the post:

This also helps for when I need to update something. Since I want HIVE to be the public-facing source for my campaign, it makes updating those prior blogs super easy, since they're easy to find in Obsidian:

I can even find them easily on the Graph View, which is super handy:
