Our beloved Son Goku's training begins!
An unusual training program, because although Master Roshi has his quirks, such as his mischief with girls, he's still a very respectable character, as he's the best in his field, as evidenced by his actions, as well as those of his pupils. Among them, Son Gohan himself, Goku's foster grandfather and the guardian of Fire Mountain—remember him?

Un entrenamiento fuera de lo normal, pues aunque el Maestro Roshi tiene sus detalles, como la picardía con las chicas, no deja de ser un personaje muy respetable, pues es el mejor en su estilo y de eso dan fe, sus acciones, además de sus pupilos. Entre ellos, el mismísimo Son Gohan, abuelo de crianza de Goku, y el guardián de la montaña de fuego, ¿lo recuerdan?...
The training is difficult for both boys, but Goku struggles a little less, due to his strength and training with his grandfather Gohan. In this chapter, I'll simply emphasize the importance of training that isn't solely focused on strength and violence.
Entrenamiento difícil para ambos niños, pero a Goku le cuesta un poco menos, debido a su fuerza y entrenamiento, con su abuelo Gohan. Solo destacaré, en este capítulo, la importancia de llevar a cabo, un entrenamiento que no solo esté centrado en la fuerza y en la violencia.
At the beginning, the first thing the Master did was gather them together and give them all the necessary advice to prepare and train with dedication, not only to prepare their bodies and optimize their physical strength, but also to enrich their spirit and their behavior in the world.
Al inicio, lo primero que hizo el Maestro, fue reunirlos y darle todos los consejos necesarios como para prepararse y entrenar con dedicación, no solo para preparar su cuerpo, y optimizar su fuerza física, sino también para enriquecer su espíritu y su comportamiento ante el mundo.
To achieve a good workout, you have to get up very early and be punctual; time is key in all of this. If we have a healthy body and mind, we can achieve all the personal goals we have set for ourselves in life. We don't train solely to win fights, nor to commit misdeeds to be stronger than others.
Para lograr un buen entrenamiento hay que levantarse muy temprano, y ser puntual consigo mismo, el tiempo es básico en todo esto. Si tenemos el cuerpo y la mente sanos, se pueden lograr todos los proyectos personales que nos hayamos trazado en la vida. No entrenamos solamente para ganar combates, ni tampoco para cometer fechorías por ser más fuertes que los demás.
Among the lectures Master Roshi gave that first day to his students, Son Goku and Krillin, he included a series of recommendations that will surely serve them well in the future. Those who practice martial arts should know that they are not just for winning fights or showing off. They are valid for self-defense, but they should not be used to commit misdeeds.
Entre las charlas que inició el Maestro Roshi ese primer día, para sus estudiantes Son Goku y Krilin, incluye una serie de recomendaciones, que seguro les van a servir en su futuro. Quien practica las Artes Marciales, debe saber, que no es solamente para ganar combates ni para presumir. Es válido para defenderse, pero no se debe usar para cometer fechorías.
I assure you, these training sessions became epic. They were similar to ordinary scavenger hunts. For example, crossing a sea infested with hungry sharks is very cruel. It's like risking the children's lives. Of course, these children are special, with extraordinary powers. They also feel pain and fear. I can tell you, that first training, racing to deliver milk through the mountains and remote, rugged places on foot, wasn't easy.
Les aseguro que estos entrenamientos se convirtieron en algo épico. Tenían semejanzas con las gincanas comunes. Por ejemplo, eso de cruzar el mar de un lado a otro infestado de tiburones hambrientos es muy cruel. Es como para arriesgar la vida de los niños. Claro, estos niños son especiales, y con poderes extraordinarios. Igualmente, ellos sienten dolor y miedo, pues. Les digo que ese primer entrenamiento haciendo carreras para entregar la leche entre las montañas y lugares lejanos y escabrosos a pie, no fue sencillo.
Then he ties them to a tree so they can move and avoid a group of bees or wasps that were undoubtedly going to sting them, but the inability to escape was maddening. Their faces, swollen with stings and poison in their skin, are terrifying.

Finalmente, el maestro les mandó a quitarse la concha de tortuga, que un día les mandó a usar mientras entrenaban. Eso les causó mucha emoción, ya que se sentían tan livianos que volaban, solo al dar un pequeño salto. Veremos también la efectividad de esta otra técnica.
I hope next week we can convince ourselves that it was the right training, based on the results. We're left with the big question, and the hope that the boys will emerge victorious from this, their first real fight.
Espero que la siguiente semana podamos convencernos de que fue el entrenamiento apropiado, de acuerdo a los resultados. Nos queda la gran duda, y la esperanza de que los niños saldrán airosos de este, su primer combate real.
Hopefully, Master Roshi was right to prepare them the way he did. We'll find out when we read the following pages of the third volume of the Dragon Ball manga.
Ojalá el Maestro Roshi, haya tenido razón al prepararlos como lo hizo. Lo sabremos al ver las siguientes páginas del manga volumen 3 de la saga de Dragon Ball.
They were excited because they were invited to a competition, and that was the greatest motivation to prepare for that fight, which would be anything but easy. Their preparation had to be special, to face who knows who their opponents would be. I, personally, doubt those training exercises because there was no weightlifting, no frog jumps, no jogging, no running, etc.
Ellos se emocionaron porque los invitaron a una competencia y esa fue la mayor motivación para estar preparados para ese combate, que no sería nada sencillo. Su preparación debía ser especial, para enfrentarse a no sabemos quiénes serían sus contrincantes, yo, particularmente, dudo de esos ejercicios de entrenamiento porque no hubo levantamiento de pesas, tampoco saltos de rana, no vi trotes, carreras, etc.
Lunch and the kids' farewell was a lovely day. Plus, everyone dressed up for the trip. In other words, a trip to victory, where even their coach drove them in a beautiful vehicle, wearing brand-new clothes.

La despedida de Lunch, y los niños, ha sido muy linda. Además que todos se pusieron muy guapos para el viaje. Es decir, un viaje por el triunfo, donde hasta su entrenador los lleva en un hermoso vehículo, y estrenando perchas.

Jajaja esto es hermoso. Ver estas páginas me hace sentir mucha nostalgia, de hecho es una de las sagas de Dragon Ball que son más entretenidas, sin tantos poderes locos ni cambios de pelo, es aventura pura y dura.
Fíjate que justo de esta etapa, cuando están comenzando el entrenamiento, fue que me inpiré para hacer una de mis figuritas de mi colección de Dragon Ball...

Aunque cuando pensamos en dragon ball a muchos se nos viene a la mente Z, me parece demasiado icónico ver estos paneles del Dragon Ball original, cuando los combates estaban en segundo plano y lo primordial era la aventura de sus protagonistas.s

I only remember the videos and series I managed to watch with my oldest son the year it was inaugurated, when it was broadcast on TV in my home country, Venezuela. Today, after several years in Buenos Aires, I've realized we were in its infancy compared to everything I've achieved here. Fairs, expos, cosplays, Comic-Con, fan expos—in other words, we're full of manga and anime, fairs, stores where you can buy collectible figures, etc. I love that.
