WHY YOU MISS SOME OPPORTUNITIES

They say opportunity knocks but once. Well, no matter how many times opportunity knocks, some people still end up missing it. Sometimes we even ask ourselves why we keep missing some opportunities. Could it be that the opportunity was not visible enough?

Well, the truth is that some opportunities do not just show up on their own. There are certain opportunities that come with responsibilities. Yes, you heard me right. I call it OPPORTUNITY WITH RESPONSIBILITY (OWR). This kind of opportunity looks juicy, sounds interesting, and promises something big, but before you can enjoy it, you must first carry out a task. This type of opportunity is often missed by people who love a soft life because the moment a task is attached to it, they feel discouraged and walk away.

Again, this particular type of opportunity is mostly used by people with high standards. They may want to offer you a chance to learn or benefit from something valuable, but instead of handing it over directly, they choose to test you first through a task. That task is the responsibility part of the opportunity.

Some years ago, a boss I once worked with called me and said, "Nsi, I would love to see you tomorrow to assist me with something." The next morning, I went to his office. He showed me what to do and asked if I had time to handle it. I said yes, not knowing that what I was helping him with was actually preparing me for an opportunity he wanted to introduce me to. After completing the task, he thanked me and said, “Let me drop you off.”

The following morning, I received a call from an unknown number. The person asked, “Are you Nsi?” I said yes. Then the caller said, “Okay, Mr. XYZ informed us that you can handle this task, so for the next three weeks, you will be working with us and you will be paid XYZ amount after the work. We start on Monday.” Then the call ended.

Immediately, I called Mr. XYZ and asked, “Sir, you recommended me for this?” He said yes and added, “What you did in my office yesterday was the only way I could prepare you for that job, which is the opportunity.” I thanked him and ended the call.

Some time ago, a close friend of mine also called and told me she wanted me to speak at their upcoming youth program. She said, “Nsi please, this one is just help oo, there is no brown envelope oo.” I smiled and told her not to worry, I would be there. On the day of the program, I arrived at the venue and she was very happy to see me. Luckily, I met some familiar faces, reconnected with old friends, and also made new ones. When it was my turn to speak, I was given the platform to deliver what I had prepared. After the program, I left feeling happy and fulfilled, even without receiving a brown envelope. Little did I know that the task and responsibility I accepted that day was preparing me and also showcasing me for an opportunity that came three months later with three different brown envelopes.

Personally, I have experienced several opportunities that came with responsibilities or tasks, and I have learned to look closely so I do not miss them.

Dear friends, not every opportunity will come looking like a planned or announced opportunity. Some will come quietly, wrapped in the form of a task or responsibility. Learn how to identify and make good use of such moments so that you do not miss them. Many of those responsibilities come as a test, and others as training to prepare you ahead of a big opportunity. It is up to you to recognize them. Do not allow a simple task or responsibility to block your way to a greater opportunity.

Now, take a moment and think. How many opportunities have you missed just because they came with a responsibility?

Ahahaha.

Simple, just do what you are doing with an open mind and clear conscience. You can't tell the one that is an opportunity
