To forgive is human, to forget is divine.
Truly, when the foundation cracks, the main building cannot stand. No matter how we see it or try to fancy it, trust is very important, especially when it comes to relationship, friendship, and even in a family.
I like telling people that trust is just like respect, it is earned based on your actions and inactions. And the truth is that you work to maintain the trust, and anything you do can hinder the level of trust you get. Personally, I trust people very easily because I believe everyone should just understand life and treat others the same way they expect others to treat them. So I tend to trust people and give them the benefit of doubt, but the problem is, when that trust is betrayed, then the trust is gone for life. No matter whatever you do, you might never be able to regain that level of trust again. They say once bitten twice shy, mine is thrice shy.
People do things at times with the hope of telling others sorry later on, and I ask, what if the person was not strong enough to handle your actions and maybe does something nasty or maybe your actions take his or her life, is it in the grave that you will go to apologize? Why not avoid doing anything that will lead to saying sorry, instead of doing it and hoping to say sorry.
The truth is, it is not every wound that sorry will heal, even if it does, it might never erase the scar, that is why, to forgive is easy, that’s for me, I don’t know for others, but to forget is not possible. Because if you forget, you might end up falling a victim of the same situation again. So saying, if you truly forgive you forget, that statement to me is not really realistic. To forgive is human, to forget is divine.
We should learn to forgive and not allow the memory to control our emotions.
