My Secondary School Days: Laughter, Learning, and a Love for Ibibio
Source
Secondary school is that unforgettable stage of education that comes after primary school and before higher institution. For most of us, it was six years of not just learning various subjects but also discovering ourselves, building friendships, and creating memories that still make us laugh today.
It was more than just academics. Secondary school was where the real fun of life began. Some students were experts in sneaking snacks into the classroom, mimicking teachers, and pretending to understand mathematics while secretly counting the ceiling boards. Hahaha! Honestly, it felt like nobody really liked math back then. Yet somehow, we all managed to survive it, hoping to pass and move on to better days.
Looking back, everyone had subjects they loved, often influenced by what they hoped to study in the university. Some classmates wanted to be doctors, lawyers, engineers, or pilots. Those dreams shaped how we approached our favorite subjects.
Now, here’s the funny part: my favorite subject back then has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m doing today. In junior secondary school, I loved Ibibio! Yes, Ibibio. What made it special wasn’t just the language itself, but the teacher. She was warm and kind, and she used to call me "son." She often gave me the privilege of copying notes on the board for others. That student-teacher connection made me fall in love with the subject. Even without serious studying, I always passed the exams because I had a deep interest and genuine excitement for it. Funny how life takes us in different directions, right?
When I got to senior secondary school, I developed a strong love for Chemistry. The credit again goes to an amazing teacher, passionate, dedicated, and full of jokes. He made learning fun and ensured we did our assignments and understood the topics. Even when Chemistry became complex, his teaching style made everything seem simpler. His passion was truly contagious, and it rubbed off on all of us.
Secondary school was indeed a mix of fun, challenges, and inspiration. The teachers we had and the bonds we formed played huge roles in shaping our interests and mindset.
