MY MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS

As humans trying to survive, we often face one or two things that may make us want to give up , discouragement in different aspects of our lives. This discouragement might either come from a person or from something we are involved in that is simply not working out. But be that as it may, there are people and things that make us keep pushing and not give up. These people and things serve as motivational factors to us.

Personally, I have three major motivational factors that keep me going. One of those things is the fear of poverty. When I look at other people making it in life, and I see that they have one head, two hands, and two legs just like me, I feel motivated to push harder. You know that feeling when you walk into a supermarket, boutique, or store to get something and you can’t afford it, but others are getting it without stress , mehn, you will need to think twice and reason your life again.

As a man, you have a lot of responsibilities , family, personal needs, and other bills. You will get married, and you’ll need to take care of your wife and children. You also need to build something for yourself. So, looking at all these, any sane man will not give up. Personally, it’s always difficult at some point while trying to make it big, but when I consider the consequences of being poor, it becomes enough reason to motivate me and keep me from giving up. Knowing that, "Na who give up, fuck up."

Aside from that, one set of people who motivate me to keep pushing are my parents. Growing up with them and seeing them work hard, doing everything legally possible to ensure we went to school, fed well, and had shelter , and at times going the extra mile even when it discomforted them , they did it just to make sure we were fine. This alone keeps me pushing, because I know it would also be nice to reciprocate and make them enjoy the fruit of their labour. In my dialect, we say “eyen ado akod adubok” , meaning as a child, you grow up to take care of your parents.

The next thing that keeps me motivated is my passion to serve humanity. I know people who can barely go out to work or earn money to survive. I know people whom life has not treated well, and they can barely afford a meal in a day. Seeing such people like the less privileged , keeps me motivated, with the understanding that I need to contribute my quota by helping them in any little way I can. Because if I am not working hard or pushing forward to succeed in life, I might not be able to assist those who need my help.

These are the things that keep me pushing and moving.

I pray the Lord helps all of us to survive and make it in life, so that we can help others too.
