Movie and Music

Music is a powerful tool that transcends boundaries, culture, and ethnicity. Music is seen as a universal language because it suits any kind of situation, irrespective of tribe or location. It also goes directly to the soul and heart, breaking down boundaries that divide people. Through rhythm, melody, and emotion, music communicates what words sometimes cannot, making it a powerful force for connection, expression, and unity in a diverse world.

Music is loved by everyone, to the extent that it is even used in movies. You hardly see any movie without music being played in the background. In fact, all video intros start with music, and at times the music being played tells you everything about the movie.

For a tragic movie, you will know it from the tune of the music played at the beginning of the movie or while the movie is going on. When you hear the melody and tempo of the rhythm, you don't need someone to tell you that a sorrowful scene is coming. In action movies, there are scenes that start, and immediately you know something terrible will occur in that particular scene. For those of us who have been so addicted to all those old Nollywood movies, you can easily decode all these sounds.

Furthermore, music communicates even without words. This is called non-verbal communication. For example, while watching a movie, the background music can instantly tell you whether it is a tragic or comic scene. A good film score builds suspense, expresses love, or signals danger without anyone saying a word. That is the power of music in movies.

Now let me take your mind back to one old movie in the early 2000s. The title of the movie was A Cry for Help, and one of the major characters in that movie was Nkiru, popularly known as Ble Ble. You will agree with me that anybody who watched the movie that year shed tears while watching, because it was so sorrowful. Now, it was not just the movie or the roles played or actions taken by the characters that really made tears roll down our chins, but the music and melody that followed each scene and action, that is what completed the work.

Okay, how many of us remember the popular movie Isakaba? Hahaha. The type of tunes used in Isakaba cannot go well for A Cry for Help. Even in movies like Last Burial, which was an occultic movie, every piece of music used in that movie gave it its purpose. Again, when you are watching children's channels like Jim Jam, you will always notice that the music used there is very suitable for children of that age.

So to this end, music plays a vital role in movies. It perfects the movie and helps interpret the movie even without words.
