IS EXPERIENCE TRULY THE BEST TEACHER ? : MY UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE.
Well, some experiences are funny, some sad, some good, and some bad. But the thing is, any one that you have, you must always remember. Also, it's always good to have some kind of experience because it teaches you a lesson. Some people say that experience is the best teacher, but I disagree. I like saying that experience is just a teacher, but not the best, because some experience might not give you the second chance to narrate the story for someone. But thanks to God, mine gave me a second chance, that's why I am here today to tell the story 🤣🤣.
It all happened when I was much younger, I think back in my elementary school days. Personally, I am the type that is always curious about knowing and understanding how things work, and maybe also use the knowledge gained to develop or create my own. I had been seeing my father using an electric heater to boil water, so I was always thinking about what makes the heater that hot to the extent of turning cold water hot. So one day, with my little knowledge, I came to the conclusion that the power, that is electricity, has a way of getting the iron part of the heater hot. We had only one heater then, and it was in my father's room. When he told us it was dangerous for a child to use it, he was the only person who operated it whenever we needed hot water.
So after my conclusion on how the heater works, I decided to produce one by myself so that we could at least have two, the real one and the improvised one. We had some iron hangers those days, some were spoilt. So I got one of those spoilt ones, folded it just like the iron part of the real heater, connected two naked wires to each end, kept it somewhere, and waited for a perfect day that nobody would be at home so that I could test run my innovation 🤣🤣 mumu me, what did I even know?
So the fateful day came, it was the day of a popular market in my town called Edereobo Market. My mother had left for the market, my father left for where I didn't know, and my two siblings also left for where I didn't know. Mehn, it was a perfect time for me to test run my innovation and break the news when they returned. But unfortunately, the news broke me first, so I couldn't break it to any of them. I was anxiously waiting for NEPA to bring their light, and as God or whatever would have it, the light came, and I was so happy.
I took my personal improvised heater to the socket by my mother's bed, climbed the bed, and plugged it in, but nothing happened. I quickly noticed that the socket was off, so I turned on the switch, but still, nothing happened. I was expecting the iron to turn red so that I would know it was hot. But it didn't, so I decided to touch it to feel if it was hot. I touched it 🤣🤣
Children of God, praise the Lord 🤣, how I managed to see myself on the floor from the bed that I was standing on still remains a mystery to me till date. Immediately I found myself on the floor, I was shivering, and I immediately ran out of the room, stood outside, and was seriously scared. I didn't understand myself, because it felt like someone gave me a hard slap on my back inside that room. I was scared of staying in that room, but I managed to go in, carried my improvised heater straight to the bush, and threw it away. I went back and sat outside until my mum was back. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
CHANGE-OVER AT NEUTRAL
Since then, anything electricity, I am always very careful when dealing with it. That’s why I don’t lack a tester at home in case I want to fix any appliances, and if it’s that serious, I go to the changeover, pull it to neutral. Better still, I take off the cut-out until I finish working.
Some experience sha 🤣
