As we traveled, the police flagged down our taxi. The driver gradually brought the vehicle to a stop.
“Step out!” an officer commanded.
“Step out?” a passenger behind me repeated in surprise.
“Yes,” the officer affirmed.
“But we’re running late. You can check whatever you need and let us go,” another passenger suggested.
Irritated, the officer shouted again, “I said step out!”
As we exited the vehicle, he ordered the passenger who had spoken about being late to kneel down.
“Why?” we all questioned in unison.
Just then, the senior officer noticed the passenger attempting to kneel. Turning to the angry officer, he asked, “Who gave that order?”
Without hesitation, we all pointed at the officer in question.
“Did you authorize this?” the senior officer pressed further.
“I'm sorry, sir,” the officer responded.
“You may all go,” the senior officer instructed.
And that was how we were allowed to leave.

Mientras viajábamos, la policía paró nuestro taxi. El conductor detuvo el vehículo poco a poco.
"Bájese", le ordenó un agente.
"¿Baje?", repitió sorprendido un pasajero detrás de mí.
"Sí", afirma el agente.
"Pero vamos con retraso. Puede facturar lo que necesite y dejarnos marchar", sugirió otro pasajero.
Irritado, el agente volvió a gritar: "¡He dicho que salgan!".
Al salir del vehículo, ordenó al pasajero que había hablado de llegar tarde que se arrodillara.
"¿Por qué?", preguntamos todos al unísono.
En ese momento, el oficial superior se dio cuenta de que el pasajero intentaba arrodillarse. Volviéndose hacia el agente enfadado, preguntó: "¿Quién ha dado esa orden?".
Sin dudarlo, todos señalamos al oficial en cuestión.
**"¿Usted autorizó esto?", insistió el oficial superior.
"Lo siento, señor", respondió el oficial.
"Pueden irse todos", ordenó el oficial superior.
Y así fue como nos permitieron marcharnos.
