And I realized that it's growth.
My Image
Growth indeed is a beautiful thing. It's one thing that everyone experiences at different points in their lives. But the funny part is that most of us don't even know when the growth occurs until we start feeling it. There are different ways to know that you have grown, and here is how I got to realize mine.
Bills: At a point in our lives, we never bothered about paying bills, whether for food, medication, transportation, or other things. They were always handled by our parents, and we never felt the pain. But at a point, I gradually saw myself handling some bills, like getting medication for myself when I felt sick and paying to cut my hair. The most obvious one is paying my house rent without having to call my parents to send money and buying my own food. When all these started happening, I knew that adulthood had come and that I had grown.
Thinking twice before taking an action: At a point in my life, I used to take action without considering the consequences or the aftermath because I knew I might not really face the consequences of my actions or inaction. At times, I enjoyed playing rough because if I sustained any injury, I knew I wouldn't spend money on treatment. Back then, whenever and wherever there was a problem, I would rush to check it out myself, not minding if I might get involved. But nowadays, whenever I hear of a problem, I ensure I don't go around there to avoid being a victim.
Furthermore, back in those days, there were things I used to take so seriously, but nowadays, I might just look at them and move on. When I was a bit younger, I would try everything possible to explain myself to someone to prove that I wasn't what they thought. At times, I needed people's validation before doing a particular thing. But I realized I had grown when I no longer sought people's validation before taking action on certain things.
During Christmas in those years, all I cared about was having new clothes and shoes just to feel among. It was a major challenge to me back then. But these days, I don't really consider those things during Christmas. All I care about is making money to do other reasonable things. I can get clothes any time of the year.
So, seeing all these things, nobody needs to tell me that I have grown. I realized it by myself.
