WE ALL VALUE DIFFERENT THINGS ON HIVE.

I just finished listening and contributing to the last Town Hall X space and to be frank, It is one of the best so far and I will encourage you to do the same if you haven't. One of my major takeaways from the space is that we all value different things on Hive that inform how we approach/use the blockchain.

I have said in the past and I will reiterate, we all do not have the same goals on Hive. Blockchain success means different things to different stakeholders–anyone with an interest in Hive. For instance, I will consider Hive a success if it can onboard 100,000 people to its social dapps because this is the aspect of the blockchain I care about. I believe onboarding 100,000 people solves some of the perceived issues raised in the conversation today (directly and indirectly).

100,000 active users on Hive means I have more people to engage with and share my content which can provide me with a stable form of income as someone who enjoys creating content (and makes decent content). I also believe with this amount of active users dapps can better monetize their platform and increase the inflow into the blockchain which makes both creators and supposed investors happy.

With that being said, I understand that there are people here with different motives. I was talking to someone yesterday and I realized he just wanted the value of his holdings to grow so he has a better shot at the life he wants. He is staking his hive for that reason and not because he cares about governance and token distribution which prompts another I will some other time about structure. However, the point I am trying to make here is that this person’s approach to Hive is quite different from mine and that doesn't make mine or his goal more important.

The problem I often have with people when they speak about Hive is that they undermine other people's experiences and needs. It is insulting, to say the least, and for a long time, I have hoarded some form of resentment for such people who deem themselves or their goals more important than those of the rest of us. I have long given up on that feeling because it doesn't serve me in any way. As long as I am doing my bit to improve the ecosystem, my contribution will speak for itself.

I believe anyone who is actively participating in the development of the blockchain either through staking, creating content, or marketing of the blockchain deserves to be rewarded. How that is determined is up for debate but I believe anyone contributing to the chain in any meaningful way should be rewarded and incentivised to do so, and when they do, there shouldn't be any policing about how they use the resources they get for their contribution.

The problem with our reward system is that it's not necessarily value-driven. We are a stake-based platform and it is quite surprising when people talk or act as if that doesn't influence how people use the blockchain because it does and it will continue to influence our on-chain activities and that is something we need to accept. People are going to leverage their stake and relationships. This doesn't mean proof-of-brain is dead, it is just less effective. The same applies to other social platforms--those with influence (often first movers or early adopters) enjoy certain privileges.

I think we can come to a consensus about the things we want to do on Hive and how best to allocate resources and I believe conversations in the Town Hall meetings are a good way to start. Every good actor in the system can fulfill their wants and needs, but first, we must accept that those differences (in wants and needs) exist.

This isn't a zero-sum game. Every good actor with an interest in Hive can thrive.
