My Take On Barcelona's Performance This Season
Today I want to look outside the Premier League and take a look at one of the best teams in Europe, which is FC Barcelona. Liverpool and FC Barcelona have had a long history together, one of which was an unforgettable comeback at Anfield in the 2018 Uefa Champions League season. It was an unforgettable night that will be one of the biggest in history for the club and also a painful history for Barcelona fans because if you asked them between the 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich and the comeback in Anfield they would definitely tell you that comeback hurt them more than the 8-2 loss against Bayern Munich.
Since the start of the season Barcelona has been solid in all competitions under their new manager Hansi Flick, the same man that gave Barcelona the 8-2 beat down with Bayern Munich. When people talk about top managers in today's era of football Hansi Flick has to be among the top managers in football without a doubt. Hansi Flick has never lost a final with any club he has coached over the years which is an incredible stat for the German coach.
Hansi Flick has transformed this Barcelona team better than it was last year which was a terrible year for the club under Xavi. This Barcelona side almost took Liverpool's post on the top of the UCL table this season. They have one of the best forwards in Europe this season, which is crazy as one of them, Raphinha, is on the verge of winning the Ballon d'Or this year with the season he is having at the club. Raphinha is the highest goalscorer with the highest assists this season in the UCL.
The Brazilian is the strongest candidate for the award, and I will say this hypothetically: Salah would have gotten the front role if Liverpool had not gotten knocked out of the round of sixteen by PSG. Every football fan wanted to see Liverpool Vs Barcelona in the Champions League final. I personally wanted to see how this match would go down as both teams are top-notch on the field, but if I am being honest with Barcelona's recent performance, I would say they will get the better of Liverpool. This same Barcelona team, since the start of the year,, has yet to lose a match and is likely to win the quadruple by the end of the season.
Their attack was one of the best and today I found out that the front three of Lamine Yamal, Lewandoski and Raphinha combined together have 132g/a which is crazy and shows how decisive that front three attack is and this would have been more if Lewandoski had finished up his chances in the early part of the season. Barcelona, at this point, are favourites to win the Champions League this season, but we can never but see how things go till the final of the competition. The football season is gradually coming to an end as we will see a new league winner be crowned soon.
