CONSISTENTLY DOING WRONG

Shot by Me

I know I put out a lot of hyper-motivational content on my platform mainly because I am a highly driven individual and this kind of approach towards life and everything I do works for me (sometimes). However, I do believe I am an exception and the same applies to other high-performing individuals. This is why it is important I discuss some of the drawbacks of being consistent.

Consistency hasn't always gotten me to the point I wanted/needed in life. I have shared in the past how the business I ventured into ruined me financially despite actively pursuing it for months. My supposed woes weren't due to a lack of skill or consistency because, as some of you already know, whenever I put my mind to something I commit and drive myself to the ground until I accomplish my goal. However, in this case, the harder I tried the more chaotic things went until i decided to hang my boots. This is just one of many examples of how I have failed at something I was relatively good at doing.

Being consistent can backfire when you are engaged in the wrong thing. You cannot always fake it until you make it. If you find yourself in a bad business or job, putting more time and effort into it will not make it any better (this is referred to as the sunk cost fallacy). You cannot force a good thing out of a bad place, it is counterintuitive and a total waste of time. This can be a hard pill to swallow because many people are stuck in jobs or businesses that are not so ideal and they really can't tell if they are in the right space or not. There isn't any true way to know.

Also, consistency doesn't always work when you are doing the right thing poorly. This is often the commonest reason why people never exile after committing years to a product, business or job. They do not have an eye for perfection, nor do they have an ear for (constructive) criticism. People in this group believe time and chance will happen to them but that's not always the case (it is a fool’s game), rather it would impact your life negatively. I will give a very retable example for hivers.

Some of you on Hive have been blacklisted from certain communities or groups because of the poor quality of content you put on the blockchain (coupled with your spammy activities). There is nothing you can do that will change the minds of this group of people, and you are not helping yourself anymore by continuing in this said pattern. There is absolutely no point in trying to pander to them because irrespective of your contribution to the chain their perception of you remains the same.

As a (non-active) curator, I can tell you that despite the threshold for content quality on Hive being so low, most creators do not reach this mark and I see this group of persons consistently post without any sense of self-awareness, which I find quite disturbing. This sort of delusional consistent yields no result and it is a total waste of time

THE REWARD FOR BEING CONSISTENT

I have come to learn that the reward for being diligent and consistent isn't a direct success. Most times your reward comes as an opportunity. When I tell people that my biggest break in crypto hasn't been from creating content from Hive. However, being diligent and consistent on Hive has opened more doors of opportunity for me to collaborate and work with people across the globe, which I find more fulfilling than the tokens I make from my posts.

Lastly, manage your expectations. There are really no guarantees in life. Things don’t pan out how we want. However, with every decision, there are valuable lessons to learn which can be invaluable in other aspects of your life. Consistency teaches you discipline which is an important factor in everything we do in life.
