I never really thought of myself as someone with a green thumb, but growing aloe vera completely changed that for me—and Hivegarden played a huge part in making it all possible. Aloe vera is now one of my favorite plants to grow. It’s low-maintenance, super useful, and actually kind of therapeutic to take care of.
I started with just one small aloe vera plant, not really knowing what I was doing. I turned to Hivegarden for some guidance, and honestly, it made all the difference. Their beginner-friendly tips, growing guides, and even the soil mix I bought from them gave me the confidence to get started the right way.
The first thing I learned is that aloe vera absolutely loves the sun. I make sure to keep mine in a spot where it gets at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day. If it’s indoors, a bright window does the trick. Hivegarden actually recommended the perfect container setup with proper drainage, which is super important because aloe vera doesn’t like wet feet. Too much moisture and the roots start to rot.
The soil is another key thing. Hivegarden sells a really good succulent and cactus mix, and I’ve found that works best. It drains quickly and keeps the roots healthy. I also learned from them how to spot and replant “pups” or offshoots. It’s really satisfying to see new little aloe plants sprout up around the base of the mother plant—and even more fun to repot them and watch them grow on their own.
Watering is easy: I only do it when the soil feels completely dry, usually every 2–3 weeks. During the winter, I barely water it at all. Hivegarden’s reminders and seasonal care tips help me stay on track without overthinking it.
One of the most rewarding parts is harvesting the leaves. When I cut off a mature leaf and scoop out the gel, I use it for everything—from soothing sunburns to mixing it into my homemade skincare. Hivegarden even showed me how to store it properly.
Honestly, aloe vera has been the gateway plant that got me hooked on gardening. And I wouldn’t have had such a smooth journey without the help and support from Hivegarden. They really helped me turn a curiosity into something meaningful and sustainable.
