What Happened to Us?

In our world today , a lot have gone into extinction, and bringing back most of those things seems impossible in this era. If it's in my hands, then there are many things I would love to bring back to this present life and make a difference in our world. Starting from the good people we have lost those who impacted our society positively , some products that are no longer in existence, and even animals. However, the most important thing I crave to bring back is the true communal living we experienced in those days.

Those of us born in the 80s must have had practical experience of how things were then. A time when the whole community saw themselves as one. It didn't matter your tribe , your country , the language you speak , etc. As long as we all live together in a community , we see ourselves as one. Those days, I remember sleeping off in our neighbors' house after watching black and white television in their house. I ate my dinner there, and while watching the TV, I slept off. My parents didn't bother because they knew where I was. Innocent minds with each other. Then no hatred as such, no jealousy , backbiting, and all sorts of evils that prevail today .The society saw themselves as one. We children those days stayed with other elders at moonlight, listening to their stories and folk tales. It was fun!

As I write this, I can vividly recall how we always sat in a circle on the ground , playing local games and doing things together with other children without the fear of anything. Back then, any adult could correct us when they noticed a bad behavior without our biological parents questioning them. My mom will be going to the market and instruct us to stay in our neighbor's house until she returns. That's how people cared and trusted each other, and life became easier for everyone .

What changed?

I really don't know how we got here, and deep down within me, I doubt if this kind of genuine communal living can ever exist among us. Evil has prevailed. In fact, some family members no longer trust each other, not to mention a neighbor. The other time, when we were still living in a rented apartment , we got a new car, and within two weeks, the landlord brought an increment, a crazy one too. The funny part of it was that we asked our co-tenants, and they confirmed not receiving any letter from the same landlord. My dear, we couldn't even allow our old rent to complete before we packed out immediately. The handwriting was written boldly on the wall, and thus, carefulness was needed.

These days, I don't even see my neighbors here for three months, yet we all live in one community. Aside from my children mixing up with others in school, it would have been terrible because children nowadays, are being locked up in their various homes. Everyone is either scared of each other or engrossed in social media. Only a few people still give out food and care for one another today. Is that bad!

I really wish that such communal living could be experienced again, and truly , things would be easier for everyone .

That landlord was funny o
It's either he now thinks you people have so much money to pay whatever amount of rent or he's jealous that his tenant own a car and he doesn't 😂 which could it have been?

Indeed, we've long gone away from the communal living style and it will be really difficult to bring those times back.

Lol...we didn't want to wait and see the other side of him because obviously, he wasn't just happy with us. This similar attitude is rampart in our world today , it quite unlike before and i.must say that we should thread carefully
It's hard to see that kind of communal living again

I remember the times I would stay with neighbours before my mum came back from the market or shop.

There was no hostility or evil minds.

Bringing that again would be nice indeed.

The era of playing games together as children after school hours on the streets to me was one of my great memories as a kid. Now I don’t see children doing that and the talk of not seeing your neighbors for so long is so on point. That’s part of the cons of technological advancement.

That landlord shaa. My brothers landlord increased his rent when he bought a new car😂
