One Good News, Many Concerns

Talking about my country of residence, a lot is happening every now and then. If I should start writing it all, then, I might end up writing a term paper on this post. Good enough, we were asked to write just one, and that makes it better.

To start with, my country is blessed with great people, amazing culture across different tribes, mineral resources, great tourist centers, and lots more. A lot of times, I used to really pay attention to the good sides of my country despite the weaknesses here and there.

One vital thing we are yet to grab is great leaders that can help see that our light shines out. Until then, you will keep hearing one negativity or the other, but that wouldn't stop me from recognizing that we are naturally endowed. I also don't think I have seen or heard of a country devoid of downsides, just that the level of challenges is different from one country to another. For this prompt, we are to discuss one good thing that has happened in recent time in my country that I am happy with. And then, one bad thing I am sad about.

Two months ago, I went to buy fuel in a filling station close to my home, and I noticed the long queue in there. I began to ask questions, and I discovered that this particular filling station sells cheaper than others. Upon further inquiry, I heard that our very own Dangote refinery started operation, and a few filling stations are getting petrol from there, so they sell it cheaper. It was an interesting discovery, and I went deeper into reading the news.

My country has been exporting raw petrol to outside countries to refine for us while we buy it back, making the natural resources we have very expensive. It's been years since the construction of the said Dangote refinery, but it has never been operating until recently. This development brought a little crash in the price of petrol recently, although not all filling stations buy from the refinery.

We have wanted and protested that the price of petrol should be reduced, as it contributes to the high cost of living in the state, but the more we complain, the more they increase the price.

So with this recent development of the new refinery in the system, I am optimistic that soon, the price may drop generally for the good of our country.

On the other side, the bad things happening recently have been terrible, but I am not losing hope yet. The killings recently were giving me goosebumps after watching some videos, or was it the kidnapping activities happening in rural areas nowadays? Overall, I am not happy about the insecurity system of my country.

People are being killed like rats; it's a big concern, to the extent that the US president came down for our rescue to some extent. It's high time our governor woke up to their full responsibility and pay a close attention to lives. If the citizens die, I wonder whom they will lead.
